The more I chat with people, the more I realize they’re unaware of all the (expiring!) statement credit opportunities available to them. Many of these can be particularly helpful with winter travel and gift-giving season underway.
Plus, seven American Express cards introduced new statement credit opportunities that some of us might’ve already forgotten. I updated the list and added those.
Remember: all of these credits are available on an if-used basis and don’t roll over to the next month, quarter, or year. Plus, some require manual activation or enrollment.
So, before you forget to use yours (I almost forgot to use my Saks benefit!), take a quick look and see if you can squeeze out some value during the next few weeks.
This isn’t an exhaustive list — but it’s still pretty detailed. Let’s take a look at what’s out there!
(Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Enrollment may be required for select American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.)
The Platinum Card® from American Express
The Platinum Card® from American Express is loaded with statement credit offers. The $50 Saks Fifth Avenue feature is the biggie to be aware of. Card members can earn up to $100 statement credits each year for purchases made in-store at Saks Fifth Avenue or online at saks.com. Available as $50 from January through June, then $50 in statement credits from July through December. (Enrollment through your Amex account is required.) Not sure what the heck you’d buy at Saks? Here are some ideas. Remember to start your shopping sesh through a cashback portal such as Rakuten or TopCashback and earn some extra money!
Keep in mind the card also offers these statement credits:
- $200 Hotel Credit: Earn up to $200 in annual statement credit for prepaid bookings at Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection properties. (The Hotel Collection properties require a minimum two-night stay. Eligible charges vary by property.) Reservations must be booked through American Express Travel. So if you haven’t yet booked a stay, do it now. Here’s how I used my credit to enjoy a significantly discounted stay at Bellagio Las Vegas. Once you book your eligible stay, make sure it posts to your account — and isn’t accidentally clawed back. And remember that you can’t change FHR reservations without some kind of penalty.
- $200 Airline Fee Credit: Earn up to $200 in statement credits each calendar year on incidental fees spent with one participating airline selected through Amex.
- $200 Uber Cash: Amex Platinum Card members can receive up to $200 each calendar year in monthly Uber Cash deposits valid for Uber rides or Uber Eats purchases in the United States. The deposits are dispensed as $15 each month from January through November and $35 in December. Effective November 8, 2024, an Amex Card must be selected as the payment method for your Uber or Uber Eats transaction to redeem the Amex Uber Cash benefit. (Enrollment is required. Terms apply. Uber Cash deposits are made monthly and expire if not used. To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible Amex Platinum Card must be a method of payment in your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.)
- $199 CLEAR Credit: Earn up to $199 in annual statement credit for a CLEAR membership. (Enrollment required.)
- $20 Monthly Digital Entertainment Credit: Earn up to $20 in statement credits each month (up to $240 annually) for eligible purchases on Disney+, a Disney Bundle, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock, and The Wall Street Journal. (Enrollment required.) The purchases must be made through the respective providers’ websites — and not their apps or other services.
- $300 Equinox Credit: Earn up to $300 in statement credits each year when you choose between an Equinox+ subscription with live and on-demand classes or an Equinox club membership and pay with your card.
- $12.95 Walmart+ Subscription: Charge a Walmart+ subscription to your Platinum Card and receive the monthly fee plus applicable taxes for one membership credited back to your account. Worth up to $155 annually. Subject to auto-renewal.
The Platinum Card® from American Express‘ annual fee is $695. (Rates and Fees.) But we’ve shown how it’s easy to actually come out ahead.

(Enrollment required.) Once again, start your shopping sessions through a cashback portal (i.e., Rakuten or TopCashback) and earn some extra money.
Cardholders can also earn up to $200 back in statement credits each calendar year on incidental fees spent with one participating airline selected through Amex. (Enrollment required.)
Here are the rest of the card’s statement credit opportunities.

5X on PayPal, McDonald’s, Pet Shop, and Veterinarian Purchases
I suggest people hold the Chase Freedom Flex® for a couple of reasons (actually many more than that): first, there’s no annual fee. Secondly, there are quarterly 5% bonus categories. (Awarded as 5X Chase points that can be redeemed as cashback, statement credit, applied towards travel purchases made through Chase, gift cards, etc.) Card members earn 5%/5X on up to $1500 in eligible purchases each quarter. (Manual activation is required no later than December 14.)
- This quarter, the bonus cashback categories are purchases made with PayPal, McDonald’s, Pet Shop, and Veterinarians
The promotion also applies to the legacy Chase Freedom, which is no longer available for applications.

Great list and YE reminder Chris!
Just one clarification – the Hilton Honors Surpass Card’s $50 quarterly statement credits are good “for purchases made directly with a property in the Hilton portfolio on your Hilton Honors American Express Card.” This isn’t just limited to “resorts” like the Aspire Card’s bi-annual credit. I’ve earned credits this year at Curio Collection and two different Hampton Inn & Suites, none of which are resorts.
