If you have The Platinum Card® from American Express and haven’t used your soon-to-expire Saks statement credit benefit, here’s a potentially great opportunity.
The Platinum Card® from American Express’ Saks Fifth Avenue Statement Credit Perk
Consumer/personal Amex Platinum Card members may earn up to $100 in annual statement credits for eligible purchases at Saks Fifth Avenue. (Enrollment is required and terms apply.) Purchases at Saks OFF 5TH are not eligible.
Here’s how it breaks down:
- Earn up to $50 from January through June
- Earn up to $50 from July through December
The credits do not roll over. In other words, if you don’t use the January-June period’s $50, you lose it.
The following exclusions apply:
- Saks Fifth Avenue Gift Cards
- Purchases at Saks OFF 5TH Avenue store locations
- Purchases at saksoff5th.com
- Purchases at restaurants located within the store
- Online Bill Pay for Saks Credit
- Online purchases shipped outside of the US
Designer Clearance Sale
I haven’t used my Saks credit this year and need to buy a new swimsuit. Just for grins, I checked out Saks’ website and hoped my $50 credit might help me save a few bucks if there were anything close to my budget. After all, Saks isn’t exact a discount store.
Wow. I was pleasantly surprised.
Saks is running a designer clearance sale, offering up to 60% off select items (and sizes).
For example, Greyon’s “Big Sky Printed Swim Shorts” are discounted from $128 to $48 (before applicable taxes and shipping). A couple of Ralph Lauren swim trunks are $55.05 — down from $148.
The sale isn’t limited to just men’s swimsuits. I discovered there are over 30,000 items available! Saks also sells kitchen items, travel accessories, and tons of other stuff.
Remember to start your shopping session through a cashback portal such as Rakuten or TopCashback.
Final Approach
Saks Fifth Avenue is running a fairly extensive designer sale right now. If you’re in the market for something pretty — especially if you have an Amex Platinum Card and haven’t used the semi-annual statement credit benefit.

@Chris, thanks for the reminder to use this benefit to nibble back at the annual fee. I am not one to typically shop at Saks, but this benefit does get me on their website twice per year. Also, I find it challenging to find something that is just above $50 so that I am not also just buying the benefit. Typically, underwear and socks hit the sweet spot for me. I’d encourage similar non-frequent shoppers to also closely look at the “features” of what they are buying. While I am sure this design “feature” is appreciated by some, when using this benefit some time ago I bought some male “designer” underwear designed without a “fire escape”. Comedy ensued the first time there was a “fire”. Learn from my mistakes when bottom-feeding at Saks.
