I have visited the Terminal 2 American Express Centurion Lounge in Mexico City International Airport (MEX) a number of times on mileage runs involving AeroMexico flights. That lounge is large and is two floors above security (I suggest the elevator to the top vs. the stairs).

The American Express Centurion Lounge Mexico City in Terminal 1 is unique because it is located landside (pre-security — just to the left of security screening). But you still must have a same day boarding pass to enter the lounge. In other words, you can’t just show up without a flight reservation just to enjoy the lounge.

You can enter the lounge with a The Platinum Card® from American Express, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, or the invitation-only Centurion Card or “Black Card.” (All information about the Centurion Card was collected independently by Eye of the Flyer. It was not provided or reviewed by the card issuer.)

Unlike Centurion Lounges in the United States, the card you hold does make a difference in what you may or may not have to pay for during your visit.

As I mentioned, the club is small. But during our visit we only saw a handful of people the entire time we enjoyed the club.

a plate with pizza and a knife

Since it was near lunchtime and we would not be dining for some time on our Air France flight, I decided to order a pizza. Because we entered with the Amex Business Platinum Card, we had to pay for this snack. (The pizza is complimentary, though, if you hold a personal/consumer Amex Platinum Card.) The pie wasn’t but it hit the spot

a massage table in a room

What was free, at least for me, was about a 20-minute massage. It was an excellent deep tissue massage and I gave the therapist a decent tip.

My wife’s pedicure was not free. She paid about $12 US for the treatment, and again, the therapist did a good job. Note that this treatment would also have been free if we had entered with the Amex Platinum Card.

Overall, this is quite a nice lounge with free drinks for everyone, a number of food choices (either free or for purchase) and a spa with well-trained staff. The Wi-Fi was fast, and table service was outstanding — but part of that may have been that for most of our visit, there were more staff than visitors in the lounge. Either way, it is well worth your visit if you are flying out of or connecting to Terminal 1 in Mexico City. – René
