My wife and I, both Hilton Diamonds, chose to stay at the Hilton at the Mexico City Airport for simplicity’s sake. Our Air France flight departed the next day out of Terminal 1 and we booked an award reservation for 40,000 Hilton Honors points.

We transited via the free bus shuttle service. While it seems obvious in the photo above, once you get to the top of the escalator, the hotel, is somewhat hidden behind shops.

a parking garage with a lot of cars

luggage bags in front of a building

If you miss it, you will end up near where you check in for your flights, but you can also take the elevator up to parking level 4 and use that entrance.

a hallway with shelves and vases

a room with a bar and chairs

Even though we’re Diamonds, no upgrade was offered. We confirmed free breakfast in the morning. We also requested a late checkout and were told we could remain till 1 PM.

a black door in a hallway

We were presented with room 215 that has zero view compared to the other side of the hotel that offers what I would have enjoyed much more, that is, runway views but since we were only there to sleep I did not complain – but I should have.

a bathroom with a black door

a toilet in a bathroom

a shower with glass doors

After the stress of the day, that is, just making our first flight by literally 1 minute, I wanted to take a shower before bed and got to enjoy this result:

a white towel on the floor

a wet surface with a spiral pattern on it

I have experienced slow drains in hotels before but this was simply ridiculous and turned it into a mini bathtub. Oh, there was more.

a white electronic device with a green screen

Nothing says welcome and relax like stepping into a room that is nearly 81* hot! It took a good hour to cool the room to a reasonable level. Here is the room view:

a room with a bed and luggage

a hotel room with a bed and luggage

a room with a bed and a desk and luggage

a room with a television and a chair

The room was clean but the bed was rock hard and I would not have wanted to spend more than one night at this location.

a tray of food and coffee on a counter

The above bottles of water matter and we should have thought about just where in the world we were because of what happened the next day.

a room with tables and chairs

a bar with a television and bottles of alcohol

a restaurant with a counter and people in the background

We got up in time for breakfast and were initially pleased with the offerings as a Diamond.

a plate of fruit and a teapot on a table

a plate of food with chips on it

Everything tasted OK but either the water in the room from brushing our teeth was bad or the water to rinse the fruit was bad or the water for our tea was bad because when we arrived in Spain we were greeted by the gift of Montezuma’s revenge as I mentioned in my prologue to this adventure.

a room with a couch and chairs

To say we were not impressed with this Hilton is putting it mildly but to top it off the cleaning folks came by at 11AM and wanted us out and said we could not stay past noon. We packed up and rather than wait in the now somewhat crowded lobby we found just around the corner from check-in a private quiet room to relax for a few hours before check-in opened up for our Air France flight. Naturally an older lady and daughter walked in and had a very loud face time call for the better part of half an hour.

I was really hoping the trip would start to improve from this point on! – René

Having stayed at the other miserable airport hotel in MEX, the Camino Real, this mediocre Hilton actually still looks far better. Nothing but bad and worse choices here.

I’m staying at the brand new Hilton Garden Inn inside the Guadalajara airport and I am very pleased with almost everything. Polite and efficient check in, a nice runway view with reinforced glass to minimize noise, and a very good selection at breakfast including made to order omelets. In Guadalajara many do not speak English and at the hotel, most employees speak only Spanish. I highly recommend this inside the airport hotel.

The Hilton has come a long way, trust me. The entire airport structure is so outdated and worn and torn, it really should have been rebuilt as the city itself is amazing. As for the Hilton, sure the plumbing and electrical is original, so even though rooms got a new face and looks pretty good, HVAC, WiFi and plumbing–well… I also got stomach issues from eating at an airport outlet there, so may need to avoid eating on site, but sure it wasn’t something on the plane?

Agree room was quite warm, but I’m happy at 77-78. Surprised to hear about the bed, thought they would be fairly consistent, but maybe they’ll add a topper to soften.

@Rene, appreciate your review and as a result I will avoid this Hilton, even as it may be somewhat convenient. As a fellow Hilton Diamond, I’m also finding many Hilton-branded hotels (e.g. Fort Worth, LAX Airport, Atlanta) plain unimpressive. You’ve given me another data point.

As for Montezuma’s Revenge, back in 2019 my wife and I daringly brushed our teeth in the T2 Aeromexico Lounge. As you may expect, same result for both of us. Always, always, always – bottled water.

Honestly, Diamond status really doesn’t mean that much in the U.S. Few and far between upgrades, late checkout 50-50 at best, and almost no Executive Lounges anywhere. Europe and even Canada…different ballgame.

So surprised to hear about this Hilton location…but thank you…one more property off the list!
