The end of an era will soon be here: The Mirage Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip announced the final day guests can stay at the resort — and which day operations will end altogether.
The property will then be under construction and transformed into “the highly anticipated Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas.” (Hard Rock’s words. Not mine.)
I believe The Mirage was the first mega-resort on the Strip.
July 14
According to a press release, The Mirage’s final day of hotel operations is Sunday, July 14, 2024. Guests must check out on Monday, July 15.
But here’s where things get interesting: some people certainly have reservations booked after July 14. Hard Rock advises, “All reservations will be canceled beyond July 14, 2024. Please contact our Guest Service department at 800-374-9000 or the third-party vendor your reservation was booked through for more information.”
Guests who received a complimentary stay through the casino can stay at a different Hard Rock property.

July 17
Hard Rock says the Mirage’s operations wlll end altogether on July 17, 2024. Maybe the casino will stay open between the 15th and 17th? The volcano will erupt a couple of more times?
What If You Have Chips and Slot Vouchers?
If you’re holding on to Mirage gaming chips, slot vouchers and the like, you’ll want to check this out.
Farewell, Mirage
I first visited Las Vegas in May 2000 when I moved from Fargo to Los Angeles. My dad, sister, and I stayed at Sahara. I didn’t make it back to Vegas until January 2004 when my girlfriend (now wife), her parents, and I went to The Mirage for a weekend. That’s when I learned how to play blackjack the correct way, my girlfriend and her family showed me around Vegas (my father-in-law has been going since the 1960s).
Mirage looked dark and run down the last time I was there (several years ago), so the property is certainly due for a refresh. But I’m sad to see it go.
Maybe I’ll fit in one final night before it closes.

I am going in June for one last stay. I have many good memories of Mirage, and will enjoy it one last time. I wonder what the staffing will be like now that the closing announcement was made? I also wonder if closing for construction was the plan all along and staff were kept in the dark so they wouldn’t quit?
