This is a disturbing report. Per the United States Attorney’s Office in Alaska a crew member from South Africa had a mental break and stabbed a number of people including a guest this past Monday May 6th.
For some unknown reason Ntando Sogoni was trying to deploy a lifeboat when ships security escorted him to the Encore’s medical center for assessment when he attacked both a security guard and a nurse with a pair of scissors!
Norwegian cruise lines said in an e-mail statement to The Washington Post: “We condemn violent behavior of this nature and are committed to the safety and security of all crew members and guests on our ships. We commend the onboard security team for their brave actions.”
Mr. Sogoni was held in the brig on the ship until he was arrested by the FBI in Juneau yesterday.
Reddit user Akamikeb posted in the cruise section of the board that it was his aunt that was the guest to was attacked. The reader posted in part: “My Aunt was feeling ill and went to the infirmary to get some rest and said this dude just snapped and started stabbing. Almost all her wounds are defensive ones, but she did suffer a minor heart attack and they are investigating a possible punctured lung from her ribs, likely due to chest impact from the struggle.”
I hope everyone involved is this sad event is OK and can recover with time. – René
