All major cruise ships have a medical facility onboard but depending on the severity of the situation you may need to be air lifted off the ship. The US Coast Guard has some of the most skilled, and brave, helicopter pilots in the world. Even so, rescues at sea can be very very dangerous.
Take a look at this terrifying video from Breaking Aviation News & Videos @aviationbrk on Twitter that shows the HH-60 nearly goes into the ocean before climbing back up after aborting the rescue.

I am so thankful everyone appears OK. Very little is reported about what ship this was, when it happened, or what happened to the passenger that they were trying to rescue. When more details are found I will be sure to update this post! – René
UPDATE:
Per CrewCenter we learn the ship and location – “[The] Carnival Dream. The incident occurred in adverse weather conditions on April 29, approximately 300 miles offshore of Fort Morgan, Alabama”
CrewCenter also has two move videos of the event from twitter. Coast Guard people are the best!

Wow Rene! Another glimpse into the unique life at sea.
What a close call not just for the helicopter crew but the passengers on the ship. It looked to be struggling even as it was over the vessel.
