I have only ever been to Alaska once and that was on a Delta Air Lines mileage run, that is, flying just to earn elite points. I did overnight and had the chance to fly on a float plane and that was also something I had never done before.
My wife has never been even a day to Alaska and we both really wanted to enjoy the adventure of seeing the 49th state, well a tiny tiny part of it anyway, from the sea.
As you can see this will be a multi-post review with many things that went right and some that could have gone better. The theme of this blog after all is Sea – Sand – Points and using them all to stack as many deals and offers to get maximum value from any travel experience.
Without going into too many details in this overview post let me say we simply had a blast and the trip was even more stunning and spectacular than I could have dreamed. Alaska was way beyond my wildest expectations and if you are a Frequent Floater and have not yet sailed Alaska – you simply MUST book it and consider some of the tips I will share along the way.
Every time I return home after a cruise that “cruise feeling” takes a while to leave me. No, I am not talking about feeling the ship still moving when sitting at my desk in my office (but did have that for a while after my 21 day crossing last year) but the constant flow of memories and wonder of the adventure at sea. This round that feeling will stay with me a long long time and I can not wait to share it all with you! – Rene

Alaska is truly magical. I was able to get a steal of a cabin last year. I am booked for another part of the season this year, and can’t wait.
Looking forward to the series! We are booked on the same ship in Alaska next summer. We’re experienced cruisers on other lines and in other parts of the world, but newbies on NCL and Alaskan cruises.
