While traveling to Indiana to experience the amazing total solar eclipse and pay a special visit to a college campus my late mother always wanted to visit, I had the opportunity to try a Delta First Class meal new to me: the carrier’s French Toast.
I’ve enjoyed the privilege of eating many different Delta First Class entrees. How does the French toast compare to the rest of them?
Delta French Toast Breakfast
I received a complimentary First Class upgrade for my flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). A few days before my trip departed, Delta invited me to pre-order my breakfast for my morning flight.
Here were my choices:
The Charcuterie and Cheese caught my eye because, well, I love charcuterie and cheese and Rene reviewed a version of this offering out of MSP.
I forwarded the menu to a couple of trusted friends who’ve eaten most of Delta’s breakfast options. We’ve experienced several meals together — some onboard Delta flights and others out and about in various cities (and airport lounges). So, if they recommend something that agrees with my tastes, I’ll go with it.
Both insisted I get the French toast.
They’re lucky we’re still friends. (Although, maybe this way their culinary way of kicking me out of the group…)
The toasted coconut shavings and croissant were the meal’s highlights.
The French toast was warm-ish, tough, and bland. (And that’s me complaining about something being bland.) The mango compote and citrus ricotta were gross.
Even the yogurt — the freaking yogurt! — was disappointing.
Final Approach
I truly love some of the premium meals on Delta flights. The blueberry pancakes and marina meatballs are fantastic. Others (such as the seared beef chuck) are fine. But there are going to be duds from time to time. The French toast is one of them.
Have you had Delta’s French toast breakfast? What do you think?

I tried this a few weeks ago also. Hated it. Sometimes I wish Delta would go back to the basics. I’m all for good food. But it’s hard to nail things like this vs the standard breakfast dishes.
When i first saw the picture I thought it was chicken breast with shaved parm. Scrolled down to try to find the french toast pics.
I’ll stick with charcuterie 🙂
Weird choice to serve a croissant with french toast. That’s some serious carb loading! Thanks for taking one for the team, I’ll stick with the charcuterie and cheese.
I had it a few months ago. They moved a bunch of the breakfast options around and removed better ones we used to have. This was the only one on the list that looked worth trying. It was truly awful.
In November, I had Delta’s french toast bread pudding in first class, and I liked it even though I usually prefer a more savory breakfast like the three cheese quiche. However, it was very different than the french toast you got. Perhaps your friends were recalling having had the french toast bread pudding when they made their recommendation.
I’ve had multiple french toasts, from different recipes, including one as you describe, but last year and before some very tasty french toasts out of LAX with custard-ish fillings and/or other less-than-healthy great tasting features.
Just had the vegetarian breakfast burrito which was quite good. It came with the same croissant and yogurt as yours. I didn’t mind the croissant but thought the yogurt was awful.
Like, how do you screw up YOGURT?
