Delta jets are not anywhere as clean as they were during COVID years now that everyone is packing the jets again. That is not to say they are not cleaned – but perhaps not to the extent we would like (all you have to do is take a look at the VFTW post for some ugly examples).
My friend Chris Elliott, a few years back, had a great post on a passenger claiming to be bitten by bed bugs or fleas on her Delta flight from Atlanta to NYC. With all the dogs flying nowadays I would not be shocked if fleas jumped from pet to jet but who knows.
Recently there is the report that went world wide viral about maggots raining down from an overhead compartment on an international Delta flight (the stuff of endless nightmares, right). I am not sure I could get back on a jet for weeks if that had happened to me – shudder!
Wish Delta seatmaps would let you know if you booked a seat next to a cockroach /s

But recently there have been some really nasty cockroach videos popping up on Reddit. The first one is of a pest crawling around a “Comfort Plus” premium (their words not mine) seat. Do keep in mind C+ seats are the exact same seats as the rest of the coach cabin – just with a tiny bit more leg room. If I saw a roach crawling around my seat area I would be getting OFF that jet.
Apparently this Cockroach also paid for fist class

There is another one and this one, get this, is for a Delta One seat and an expensive international flight where the bug is crawling around all over the place. My wife would have screamed and run away (she desperately HATES cockroaches fyi).
I have seen a lot on my 1.5 million lifetime miles flying Delta jets but never anything like the above and any of them would really creep me for a long time. I get some of the folks flying today are not very clean but dang bringing bugs, that were either on you or your stuff, onboard a Delta jet is just disgusting.
I guess I would love to get some reader feedback. Would any of the above freak you out? Would you still fly the jet or get off and take the next flight? – René

EWWWWWWWW!!! I’m petrified!!!! If Delta is this way, I bet the other airlines are just as bad !!!!! OMG ILL BRING MY OWN BUG SPEAY, BUT AGAIN ITS NOT ALLOWED TO CARRY …. Oh well…….not traveling for awhile
I haven’t yet experienced any encounter with crawling creatures while flying Delta. I did however notice the aircrafts aren’t as clean as before the pandemic. The AeroMexico equivalent to Delta one, however, are very dirty. I’m talking about dust and food crumbs. During my most recent flight, this month, I had to wipe down my seats, armrests, and tray before sitting because I was afraid to stain my light pink outfit. It was that bad! My Delta LAS -JFK round trip in first class wasn’t bad. Thank you for sharing this information, so we can all be more aware and better prepared. PS: I have been to 10 airports in the last 30 days, and I must highlight that I’m seeing a very quick exit of a flight and subsequent boarding of the same aircraft which begs the question: Are airlines cleaning the aircrafts in between flights? Internationally, at least in the Americas, that is no longer the case.
Roaches can easily slip into a stored carry on bag and can hitch a ride onto a plane. So can bedbugs and all manner of other pests.
This is why I make a point of spraying the inside of all my bags the day before I pack.
I’m much less worried about the spray than I am about unauthorized hitchhikers.
@Greggb57 – Interesting. I may do this but outside of the bag. What spray do you use if I may ask?
Oh goodness !!!!! I’m super careful I. Hotels… never put my bag on anything fabric… only tile plastic, etc. But the BUGS on Planes OH NOoooo. A great idea to spray outside of luggage!!! I think anything with
“DEET” is effective.. perhaps something organic inside.. more research h to be done now.
I am grossed OUT!
True re turn around time for planes
Thanks for the good ideas
I traveled during the pandemic and experienced some fairly dirt seat back pockets.
You mean to say the airlines weren’t cleaning the planes as well as they claimed? NO WAY! 🙂
Haha! We don’t expect perfection, but I found trash on the floor and food crumbs on the seats flying AeroMexico. In one segment of my trip, people were actually leaving the plane as we were walking in… crazy! Definitely no time to even pick up the trash. 🙁 I don’t care what class we fly but cleaning is a must. AeroMexico has great food and comfortable seats but I’m reconsidering flying with them again. Too many issues with technology, which I think I emailed you guys about, and lack of cleaning. Maybe Latam is a better option when going South.
It’s just a bug, guys. It’s not the apocalypse.
@Lazarus – Sorry not say yes to an invitation to dinner at your place! 🙁
Cleaning of the planes, jetways and gate areas is a thing of the past!!Sad
