We’re hearing from a bunch of people who are taking (or need to book) year-end Delta Air Lines Medallion Qualification Mile (MQM) runs. Why? They either need to secure a certain tier of status or bank a bunch of rollover MQM so they can extend their 2024 status into additional years.
We found this Los Angeles (LAX) to London Heathrow (LHR) MQM mileage run-status run-mini vacation departing this Friday and getting back to LAX on Sunday evening.
Something particularly attractive: it doesn’t leave LAX until 11:15 AM. This gives travelers from other cities decent-ish time to position to Southern California. Similarly, you arrive back at LAX at 6:30 PM on Sunday. That gives you time to catch a red-eye home (or if you live here in L.A., time to make a cameo appearance at a Christmas Eve dinner or other gathering. No need to thank me if this is your excuse to get out of going to something. 🙂 ). Keep in mind you’ll have to clear customs and immigration at LAX, so tack on some time for that.
Now, this is sort of a desperation run. I say that because it’s all in Main Cabin (coach) and the 11,627 MQM are earned at a rate of about 9.6 cents per MQM.
But we’re in the holiday season when flights are fairly expensive — we can’t get too picky.
Hotel-wise: I’ve stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Heathrow a couple of times. It’s a good hotel and usually very affordable on points. You can ride the Paddington Line to and from the city. Plus, the hotel is located outside Terminal 4 — which is where you’ll depart on Sunday morning.
