We found a Delta mileage-status run for people looking to boost their MQM earnings during a quick weekend trip to Spain.
The trip travels from Los Angeles (LAX) to Atlanta (ATL) to Barcelona (BCN). On the return, you fly BCN to Paris (CDG) to LAX. Each leg except the two-hour BCN to CDG hop is scheduled for widebody Airbus aircraft! (LAX to ATL is currently slated for an A350-900.)
Now, there’s good news and bad news.
Let’s start with the good news: it’s reasonably cheap. It currently costs $701! According to Delta, you’ll earn 12,733 MQM and $581 MQD. That prices out to about 5.5 CPM.
Here’s the bad news: it’s a Main Cabin (coach) fare. Hey, you sometimes must suffer for your status!
But if you hold any Delta Medallion status, you can select Main Cabin exit row seats. Diamonds and Platinums can get upgraded to Comfort+ shortly after purchasing their tickets. Plus, Diamonds can try to redeem their Global Upgrade Certificates.
Our specific trip Departs LAX on Friday, December 1, and returns at 6:30 PM on Sunday, December 3. You have most of Saturday to explore Barcelona. That said, play around with the dates — it looked like a few others worked. I chose this specifically because it fell on a weekend.
Delta Medallions and higher should be able to enter the Air France lounges in Paris. But the only way to get into the Sky Clubs is to hold a membership or eligible American Express card.
Is the Trip Available on Delta Partners?
I checked Air France and the same itinerary priced out to $900. However, you’d earn $1,245 plus the full MQD. But again, that’s $200 more expensive.
“But I want an MQD trip! And I don’t fly coach!”
