Delta Air Lines extended its Hurricane Hilary weather waivers late Friday night. Several United States cities are now affected.
If you’re traveling to/from Palm Springs, the Los Angeles metro area, Las Vegas, or San Diego, you might want to reconsider your plans.
Delta’s Hurricane Weather Waivers
Any applicable fare differences will be waived, provided you rebook in the same cabin of service (i.e., Main Cabin).
First of all, Delta’s Cabo San Lucas waiver is still in effect:
- Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (SJD)
- The impacted travel dates are August 19-20. Tickets must be rebooked by August 23. Rebooked travel must commence no later than August 23, as well.
- Here’s the waiver’s official page on Delta.com.
Historical Weather?
Next, southern California is under its first-ever tropical storm warning.
Here’s an interesting twist: the potentially ugly weather could extend into Las Vegas. Delta has another waiver in effect for people whose travels go through the below airports during the designated days:
California
- Burbank, CA (BUR)
- Los Angeles, CA (LAX)
- Long Beach, CA (LGB)
- Ontario, CA (ONT)
- Palm Springs, CA (PSP)
- San Diego, CA (SAN)
- Santa Ana, CA (SNA)
Nevada
- Las Vegas, NV (LAS)
Applicable travel dates are August 20-21. Tickets must be rebooked by August 24. Rebooked travel must commence no later than August 24, too.
Here’s your chance to extend or bail on a trip involving one of these cities.
How often do you get a chance to extend a Vegas weekend into Monday or Tuesday?! 😉
Seriously, though, the desert areas — especially Palm Springs — could really get smacked by this storm.
Be Smart
Start making flight changes now before the ticketing lines (phone and in-person) get especially busy.
Remember that airlines generally don’t pay for any expenses (hotels, meals, ground transport, etc.) if you’re delayed due to weather. I hope you booked with a credit card offering good trip delay coverage or you hold travel insurance. (Or both!)
