Coming off our simply amazing Norwegian Star 21 day cruise, we arraigned, as we usually do, to have Welcome Pickups pick us up and take us from the ship to our hotel. We chose the Hilton Buenos Aires for a number of reasons. First, we currently hold Hilton Diamond status. Next, we had two free night certs about to expire. Then the location near downtown and the cruise port.
Since cruise ships want you off by 10:AM at the latest, we always tend to arrive way early at hotels and are stuck with the choice of sitting around or asking to have your bags stored while you go out and explore. However, this was not needed this time as the hotel was simply amazing and accommodating to us as Diamond guests.
Even well before noon, we were not just given a room but what they called an executive suite. While not massive it was a very nice room and on the same floor as the club lounge. Take a look around:
A shower with a door – I have left Europe! Even a walk in closet. No robe but overall a nice room and so nice to be able to enjoy it so early in the day.
Another perk of getting to the room so fast was the ability to watch parts of the final World Cup match that was being played the day we arrived. I popped out to a grocery just around the corner and with the “Blue Dollar” credit card rate in place got some very nice Malbec wine for $2.00! The rest of day was crazy and will share more later in the post.
Another reason for booking this hotel was the pool and pool area looked fantastic and it was. A few more days of fun and sun before our return to dark and gray Indiana was a real treat.
Rather than cheap and funky dollar spend credit vouchers that is spreading like poison ivy with the Hilton brands stateside (and soon more) we were granted access to the club lounge all day long.
For a hotel lounge this was big. As you can imagine it was PACKED with folks lining up chairs around the TV in the club to watch the big match. The real star of this club was the rather impressive breakfast offerings. Take a peak:
We were, as we say on the Swedish side of things (translated to English), amply satisfied. There was no real “dinner” choice but some nice snacks in the evening with more nice wine choices (man I love Argentina).
Overall the stay was simply lovely. The staff was amazing and the hotel clean, neat, great location, fast wifi, good food and drinks and on and on. I would return in a heartbeat. But…
I would not ever return with the national team playing for the World Cup win or lose. I have already posted about the total nightmare (you have to see this if you missed it btw) of our getting to the airport the day the team returned home and finding a road without 4 million revelers on it. While an experience to be sure – one I wish to avoid again! – René

It used to be both my primary Hilton hotel worldwide and my primary hotel in Buenos Aires.
Seems pretty much the same still as I would get as a Hilton Gold at this property in the first decade of this century. They were very good with giving me complimentary early check-in — like 8-11am — and late check-out. They had over the years become less generous with complimentary late checkout — but not complaining about that, as they used to generously give me 4-6:30pm. But the lounge remained mostly as it is.
