We got a little to unpack here.
TikToker Giséle Rochefort says Delta Air Lines destroyed her suitcase. In a video she posted, the shell case appears to be cracked and missing a wheel. She noted that she filed a claim and Delta agreed to replace her damaged luggage.
Great!
Delta purportedly replaced her luggage:
13 times.
She says 13 Ricardo Beverly Hills suitcases arrived for her.
That’s quite a shipping mistake! (And good advertising Ricardo Beverly Hills.) Those familiar with such issues: does Delta outsource these issues to a third party? What’s the procedure?
So, what is Ms. Rochefort going to do with the excess baggage? The video ends with an image of her home entertainment system flanked by the new suitcases (she jokes that it’s “interior design.”) Someone suggested maybe she donate some of them. Another person suggest she keep a pair and sell the rest. And there were a few others who generously volunteered to take some off her hands.

Wow! What a mistake. I’m glad she got reimbursed. Delta lost my luggage, it was delayed but not before I had to purchase new items for a big meeting I was traveling for. It’s been 30+ days since I submitted my receipts and have yet to hear back. I was told it would only take up to a week for Delta Platinums as we have our own queue. Boy were they wrong!
Delta took a chunk out of my large hard -sided bag. It was missing and showed up later at my house!(left on the doorstep.. SO I files a complaint and uploaded a pix of the suitcase..Never heard back..she probably got my new bag…
I worked at another airline and we did replacement bags, which we had one example of each style on hand only for lack of storage space (and I had my agents keep a couple of extras in the back in case somebody had a bag that wasn’t even going to function to leave the airport – like hardsided bag run over by a vehicle, which ironically enough the last time that happened it was a Delta tug speeding through our baggage area that did it). We put in a claim and selected for a bag replacement to be authorized, then gave the customer a link (or it was emailed to them) to put in their information and select which bag they wanted. It was a third party that many airlines use. Not sure if DL is on the same provider but if not, it is very similar.
When we rolled it out, my station was one of the test locations. Corporate asked me what I thought. My reply was if I fly and they damage my tweed Hartmann roller, I’m not taking their $40 Wal-Mart bag so get the checkbook.
Riccardo Beverly Hills Luggage are junk. Always available at TJ MAXX, Tuesday Morning, Home Goods, Ross for Less and Marshalls. Cheap luggage that is usually good for 1 or 2 trips.
“Cheap luggage that is usually good for 1 or 2 trips.”
So, maybe that’s why she was sent 13 — enough for up to 26 trips? 🙂
That does beg the question – and I’ve never quite understood this – what is the attraction to this type of bag? Obviously there are quality hard-sided suitcases out there (yes, I know not everyone is going to afford a Rimowa or similar) but these cheap plastic hardsided cases that are not square are prone to damage. It’s the part that bows out that does it. These don’t stack very well at all in a baggage cart or in an airplane bin. With a soft-sided or even surface, at least the weight of what’s on top will distribute. The design alone of many airport bag systems and baggage claims doesn’t help these – dropping or sliding 15 feet is common. Am I missing something outside of just being cheap?
