One of an aviation service provider’s employees was reportedly struck today by a contractor’s fuel truck at New York-LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
The incident comes on the heels of a rather high-profile incident involving at least one Delta Air Lines employee in Atlanta.
A source tells us a fuel truck hit a cabin cleaner around 2:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday. At least one of the parties was believed to be involved in the preparation of Republic flight 5781, a Delta Connection hop to Boston (BOS).
The source noted that passengers had to be moved to a different plane because the incident occurred during the boarding process.
The flight apparently departed 23 minutes late — though how much of that delay is because of the accident is unclear.
A Delta spokesperson told us, “On Tuesday afternoon, Delta teams at LaGuardia responded to an accident involving an injury to a contracted business partner. A full investigation is underway involving all stakeholders.”
The spokesperson also informed us that “one individual, the contracted worker, was taken to a hospital.” They added that out of respect to the investigation, Delta would decline further comment.
Swissport, the company providing the fuel truck services, told us in a statement, “We confirm there was an incident at LGA on December 20, which is the subject of active investigation. Swissport is cooperating fully with the investigating authorities, and is unable to comment further at this time.”
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department referred us to Delta for comment. We also left a message for the fuel truck and cleaning service provider. We’ll update this post as appropriate.
