After the recent news announcing a Capital One and Uber partnership, I thought it would be a good idea we discuss how you can really rack up points, savings, and cashback each time you use Uber or Uber Eats.
How I Personally Save Money and Earn Points on Uber Rides
When I use Uber, I:
- Save 5% on eligible Uber rides, thanks to a complimentary Uber One membership
- Earn any applicable Marriott Bonvoy points because my Uber and Bonvoy accounts are linked
- Use any Uber Cash deposits from my American Express® Gold Card and The Platinum Card® from American Express.
- Earn 10% cashback (or 10X Capital One miles) because I pay with my no-annual-fee Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card
And it’s very simple for you to do most (or all) of those steps, too — and earn points while saving money on Uber and Uber Eats!
Here’s how.
Save 5% to 10% with a Complimentary Uber One Membership
Uber One is a subscription service offering benefits such as:
- Up to 10% off eligible orders with Uber Eats
- Up to 5% off eligible rides with Uber
- Discount will not apply to shared rides or rides booked 30 minutes or more in advance.
- Unlimited $0 delivery fee on eligible food, groceries, and other Uber Eats orders
- Customers must place a $15 minimum order at participating restaurants to receive a $0 delivery fee and a $30 minimum on other participating stores for a $0 delivery fee.
- Member-only perks and promotions
Uber One currently costs $9.99 a month (or $99 annually). But four Capital One cards offer what essentially comes out to a free, monthly Uber One membership through November 14, 2024:
- Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
- Capital One Savor Rewards Credit Card ($95 annual fee)
- Capital One SavorOne Student Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
- Capital One Quicksilver Student Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
Three cards offer a six-month Uber One membership:
- Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
- Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
- Capital One Quicksilver Secured Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
Make your eligible card the default payment for your Uber One membership and you’ll receive a statement credit shortly after the charge posts.
So, that’s a very easy and affordable way to save up to 5% on Uber Rides and 10% on Uber Eats orders through mid-November 2024.

Earn Marriott Bonvoy Points
Who doesn’t love free points?!
Link your Marriott Bonvoy and Uber accounts to earn Bonvoy points on eligible Uber rides or Uber Eats orders.
- 6X Bonvoy points per dollar spent on Uber Eats orders of $25+ delivered to any hotel within the Marriott portfolio. (I wish I lived within walking distance of a Marriott property! 🙂 )
- 3X on UberXL, Uber Comfort, Uber SUV, and Uber Black rides
- 2X on all other Uber Eats orders of $25+, including those from Marriott restaurants
This page gives you instructions for linking your accounts.
Uber Cash Deposits with American Express Cards
Two American Express® Membership Rewards® cards offer members monthly if-used Uber Cash deposits valid for Uber and Uber Eats purchases:
- $15 for card_name members (except December. That month is $35!)
- $10 for American Express® Gold Card members
- Enrollment is required for each and terms apply.
You do not need to pay your Uber or Uber Eats cash balance with an American Express card in order to use the Uber Cash deposit.
card_name carries a $695 annual fee (Rates and fees) but we’ve documented how easy it is to come out very well ahead. The American Express® Gold Card‘s annual fee is $250 (Rates and fees.). But that, too, can be earned back without too much fuss.
Earn Credit Card Awards Points or Cashback
Four Capital One cards offer 10% cashback on Uber rides and Uber Eats purchases made through November 14, 2024:
- Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
- Capital One Savor Rewards Credit Card ($95 annual fee)
- Capital One SavorOne Student Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
- Capital One Quicksilver Student Cash Rewards Credit Card ($0 annual fee)
If you plan to use Uber or Uber Eats with some regularity during the next two years, I highly recommend getting one of those cards. (Especially one of the no-annual-fee cards!)
Several rewards credit cards offer bonus points for general travel, transit, or rideshare spending. Many cashback or travel credit cards earn at least 2% or 2X points for either general purchases or travel and tranist spending.
A few that do better than that include:
- U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card
- 4X points on travel
- Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express
- 3% cashback on Transit, including trains, taxicabs, ride share services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, and subways
- Cashback is awarded as “Reward Dollars” which may be applied toward statement credit
- 3% cashback on Transit, including trains, taxicabs, ride share services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, and subways
- American Express® Green Card
- 3X American Express® Membership Rewards® on Transit, including trains, taxicabs, rideshare services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, and subways.
- This card is not available in affiliate channels. All research and data have been independently gathered by Eye of the Flyer
- 3X American Express® Membership Rewards® on Transit, including trains, taxicabs, rideshare services, ferries, tolls, parking, buses, and subways.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®
- 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards® points on travel purchases (after the card’s annual $300 travel statement credit has been exhausted)
- Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card
- Up to 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards® points on the first $150,000 spent on travel and select business categories each account anniversary year (then 1X thereafter)
Some of the 2% cashback or 2X points cards we like include the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.
