Hurricane Ian is barreling toward Florida — and Georgia and South Carolina are expected to experience some fairly ugly weather as part of Ian’s track. So, Delta Air Lines modified the weather waiver posted yesterday to include a few Peach State and Palmetto State airports.
The waiver is currently in effect for Delta travel occurring through Friday, September 30. Affected airports include (additions are bolded):
- Brunswick, GA (BQK)
- Columbus, GA (CSG)
- Daytona Beach, FL (DAB)
- Fort Lauderdale, FL (FLL)
- Fort Myers, FL (RSW)
- Fort Walton Beach, FL (VPS)
- Gainesville, FL (GNV)
- Hilton Head, SC (HHH)
- Jacksonville, FL (JAX)
- Key West, FL (EYW)
- Melbourne, FL (MLB)
- Miami, FL (MIA)
- Orlando, FL (MCO)
- Panama City, FL (ECP)
- Sarasota, FL (SRQ)
- Savannah, GA (SAV)
- Tallahassee, FL (TLH)
- Tampa, FL (TPA)
- Valdosta, GA (VLD)
- West Palm Beach, FL (PBI)
Delta will waive any applicable fare difference (within the same cabin originally booked) for those folks whose travel takes them rebooked travel must take place October 3 or sooner.
The airline permanently waived change fees for most domestic tickets long ago. If your ticket somehow doesn’t qualify for free changes, this could give you a little extra protection.

Be Proactive
If you’re really concerned, you might want to start making flight changes now before the ticketing lines (phone and in-person) get extra, extra, extra busy.
Remember that airlines generally don’t pay for any expenses (hotels, meals, ground transport, etc.) if you’re delayed due to weather. I hope you booked with a credit card offering good trip delay coverage or you hold travel insurance. (Or both!)
