If you hold an American Express® Membership Rewards® card, you could earn 6,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when making an eligible purchase of a Delta Air Lines gift card — thanks to a new Amex Offer.
Delta Gift Card Amex Offer
Targeted cardholders can earn a one-time 6,000 additional Membership Rewards points bonus when using their enrolled card to make a single purchase of $300 or more online at delta.com/giftcards/amex for Delta gift cards by November 27, 2022. (Manual enrollment is required and terms apply.)
Both physical and e-gift card purchases made through that link are eligible.
Remember that eligible flights purchased with Delta gift cards earn MQM, MQS, MQD, and redeemable SkyMiles. Plus, Delta gift cards don’t expire. So, if you plan to spend at least $300 on Delta airfare in the future and have an Amex Membership Rewards card, this is a very good deal.
Again, just so everyone is clear: eligible purchases must be made through delta.com/giftcards/amex. Buying Delta gift cards anywhere else will not trigger the offer.
How Does the Purchase Code?
I received the offer on all three of my Amex Membership Rewards cards:
- The Platinum Card® from American Express
- American Express® Gold Card
- The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
I added to The Platinum Card® from American Express because I earn 5X Membership Rewards® Points for flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel (up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year). But most purchases made directly with airlines (baggage fees, onboard food and beverage, etc.) qualify for the 5X.
So, I made a $300 gift card purchase on Friday afternoon. Here’s where it gets interesting.
While making the purchase, I noticed that Cashstar — a well-known gift card vendor — seemed to handle the transaction for both the physical and e-gift cards.
When I received the “Hooray! You used the Amex Offer!” email (or whatever it says), here’s how the purchase was presented:
So, “DELTA CSTAR GFTCD” seems like it would be merchant “Delta Cashstar Giftcard” (I’m perceptive like that) — and earn only 1X point per dollar. (Yeah, yeah, #FirstWorldProblems, I know.)
The purchase coded as “DELTA AIR LINES GC” with Delta’s general 800 telephone number listed as the merchant’s contact information. (Whoo-hoo! 5X points, here we come?!)
Anyway, if you want to purchase a Delta airfare in the next few years and earn some bonus Membership Rewards, this is an excellent opportunity.
