The Chicago Seminars 2022 are officially a thing!
When and Where are Chicago Seminars 2022?
The event is scheduled for October 21-23, 2022 at the Holiday Inn Chicago-Elk Grove in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
Chicago Seminars director Stefan Krakowski made the announcement on the event’s official FlyerTalk thread.
I recommend arriving Thursday or no later than Friday afternoon. You can usually find fellow attendees in the hotel bar and restaurant swapping tips, ideas, and stories. (I’ll be there sometime Thursday.)
I’m thankful we’re able to meet again in person. I’ve missed seeing so many of my points and miles friends. And I desperately need new pictures for the blog.
What Topics are Covered?
Points, miles, loyalty programs, saving money, and credit cards are the general focus of the Chicago Seminars. If you want to get a feel for past events:
More than a dozen speakers have been announced. (I’m one of them and plan to speak sometime Friday evening.)
- Dia Adams, of Forbes Advisor
- Greg Davis-Kean of Frequent Miler
- Dave Homyak, bikeguy
- Rick Ingersoll The original Frugal Travel Guy (an O.G. points and miles blog) and Chicago Seminars founder
- Kathy Kass of Will Run for Miles
- Julian Kheel of CNN Underscored
- Stefan Krasowski of Rapid Travel Chai
- Ashley McCurdy of In Search of Traveler
- Marty Paz, Mrp Alert
- Shae & Stephen Pepper of GC Galore, No Home Just Roam, Frequent Miler
- Nick Reyes of Frequent Miler
- Kevin Song
- Carrie Yoder Frequent Miler and Drew Macomber
The Chicago Seminars is a volunteer-run event. Staff and speakers are not being paid. (Despite what certain other people and blogs may claim.) Proceeds from ticket and raffle sales go to charity.
When are Tickets and Hotel Rooms On Sale?
I was told they should be available within the next day or two.
What’s the Closest Airport to the Chicago Seminars?
O’Hare (ORD) is about 15 minutes away. If you fly into Midway (MDW), expect a long drive and hefty cab or Uber-Lyft fare.
Should You Go to the Chicago Seminars?
If you read this and other Boarding Area blogs, you’ll probably be interested in attending. There’s so much to learn. And most of the fellow attendees are very laid back and friendly. (Plus, the hotel restaurant’s French fries and burgers are amazing.) If you are new-ish to the points and miles hobby, I highly recommend this event.
Also, there are a few topics some bloggers aren’t supposed to discuss on their blogs. But you know what’s weird? There’s sometimes some bean-spilling during Chicago Seminars presentations and panels. And usually at the bar.
I love attending this event. This is my first time speaking at the Chicago Seminars — and I booked my flights months ago, long before I was asked to speak. That’s how excited I am every year. I always have a great time — and have met people there I consider good friends.
