Well here I go – again. Once more I am beyond stoked about getting, hopefully one day, a new 3 wheel car. If you are a very, very, very longtime reader of the blog you will maybe slightly remember my post about my planned ELIO Motors car (see this old post from 2014).
ELIO never made more than a few prototypes. I used a $1,000 AMEX gift card I picked up, at the time, via TopCashBack and earned a sweet percentage back to put down a deposit on the car to hold my place in line to get one. Well, they are all but defunct and likely will never make any cars ever (they are also trying for an EV but I doubt they will pull it off) and my deposit is likely a goner.
But please don’t cry for me as I had a chance, due to my deposit, to buy 100 shares of ELIO at $12 and sold them when the IPO went live for $65! 🙂
This new APTERA adventure is gonna cost me a little bit more, that is, about $32,000 for the 400 mile range car I have on order. You can get one that has a max range of 1000 miles on a single charge!
And how can you not love the idea of driving something that looks more like an airplane than a car and has gull-wing doors?
Plus this puppy can recharge up to 40 miles of range per day from the solar panels on top of the car.
Inside looks good in the prototype types (they are currently on the final prototype version) and I like where they are going with this.
For me, to have a car where I can charge it anywhere there is sunlight and plug into my normal home outlet is amazing. Oh that and my daily driving will be free!
If you are interested in one of these you can get $30 off your $100 deposit to get in line with THIS LINK. Like me, you will be years away from getting one but at least you will be in line to drive one, one day!
What do you think? Will Aptera be successful? They have over 25,000 orders and “plan” to have cars for sale by the end of THIS YEAR and my place in line to get one at this point is 2023 or 2024. – René
