Review: The AeroMexico First Class Hamburger Meal

Last month, I flew the jet I promised I never would: the Boeing 737-8 MAX. I have to admit I was a little uncomfortable but unless another major MAX event happens it seems that they have, in fact, fixed the jet’s issues.

That said, the first class seats AeroMexico chose for the MAX are very disappointing. You are getting, much like the Delta A220, a premium economy seat and calling it “first class” when it clearly is not.

Pre-flight beverages returned. I received a tall glass of OJ that I honestly much appreciated. It did not taste “Tang-like” as it did pre-COVID and the glass was a real tall glass vs. the old ones that were more like shooters or a shot glass.

Cooking, well, re-heating, any food on an airplane is a real challenge. To make a burger and have it warmed up and be anything but junk is hard. On Delta flights, I have had amazing quality burgers and other ones that the bottom bun was a soggy and disgusting mess. It was now AeroMexico’s turn.

I went to AeroMexcico’s website, using my PNR and name to pull it up, and put in my request for the burger. To be honest it was not my first choice but Chris told me I had to try the burger i.e. “take one for the team“ so I relented and changed my choice to the burger from the chicken choice with trepidation. How did it go?

If you think the above looks kinda amazing – I would agree.

My heart turned from fear to giddy excitement that I may have something nummy in front of me. After all, the bun was not wet at all and all the burger bits were ready to be added.

I tasted the aioli and it was not a flavor that I found pleasant. What I really wanted was classic mustard and ketchup. But the pickles were crisp and with lettuce so there was hope.

First bite and…

Sigh.

Honestly more than sigh! The beef patty was simply awful. The flavor of the “meat,” if that is what it was, was off and the texture was dry and leaning toward cardboard. There was simply no flavor at all and what there was not good.

I added all the salt and pepper I could to try to endure a few more bites and then gave up and simply had the salad and dessert as my meal (both of which were unremarkable but good).

Bottom line this was a fail and I would not recommend ordering this for your flight nor the first class seats on the 737-8 MAX from AeroMexico if you can avoid them. – René

Hey, pal, I saved you from something called a “chicken roll.”

    No need to thank me.

Thanks for the great review, René!

Maybe it was really the “impossible burger”!! Last week choices on DL Sac to ORD were impossible burrito,Ahi shrimp pole bowl and Short ribs..(5).. We were in row 2 and ordering started in Row 1but there were no SHort ribs left already?? I was told that since we were coming from the west coast -more vegan and vegetarian options were planned?? Same thing happened on the way to the Jet pull as flight originated from Calif. And of course they ran out of the MEAT-(chicken) course immediately since DL thinks commuters to and from the west coast need less meat and more vegan-veggie opetions…apparently not!! Wonder if we will ever get to pick again?

In reality the cabin you traveled on was business class. Aeromexico announces at premier class, but a knowledgeable person knows this translates into business class. Actually, to my knowledge they don’t announce this class as “first”, cause they don’t really have this cabin in any of their planes/routes.

@Hector – Compared to the older seats, that were MUCH larger, this is a big downgrade. I have flown just about every seat AeroMexico has in business / first. But I agree with you that neither Delta nor AeroMexico has any first class seats but the single seat in the mini-cabin on the 787-9 gets really close!
