We wrote last week that Delta Air Lines opened three new gates inside its under-construction Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
I swung through LAX during the holiday weekend and got a quick peek at what’s now live in Terminal 3!
How to Get to LAX Terminal 3
Once you clear the new TSA checkpoint, you’ll turn left and walk to the new Terminal 3.
It’s a short walk to T3. The farthest currently existing point (gate 33) is about 5 minutes for most people.
The first gate you encounter is 31B. This gate features a relatively small seating area. It seems like this gate will be home to Delta Connection flights (usually Embraer 175 planes at LAX).
You encounter gate 31A after that.
There’s a small convenience shop to your left as you keep making your way through the terminal.
That’s where you’ll find gates 30A and 30B. Even though those gates are not yet open, people are free to sit in the gate areas and relax.
The restrooms and pet relief area are on our right as we walk to gate 33.
Across the hall is a placeholder for video game lounge Gameway.
Then we see the LAX Order Now spot. This is also the future location for Homeboy Foods and Jamba Juice. (If you’re not familiar, check out Homeboy Foods’ story.)
Opposite that site is where we’ll someday find Native eatery.
Finally, we come to the end of our tour: gate 33.
From what I could tell, all of the seats had access to power ports.
They each feature a single USB-A port, a single USB-C port, and a pair of standard North American electrical power ports.

Can we just take a moment to say “good riddance” to the old, god-awful Terminal 3?

Final Approach
I’m pleased Delta Air Lines opened some of their new gates at LAX! Gone are the buses to hardstands. No more of that madness and heartache. It’ll be interesting to see everything once it opens later this year.

Chris, I was through there yesterday so it was great to see the pictures you shared. Thanks for all you do to keep us up on things. Any news on whether they will be bringing back Canadian club, and hopefully for some, a scotch, or beverage service?
Good riddance? Yes but I don’t mind admitting that I’ll be a bit misty, the next time I pass that way, for the old chaos, especially the placement of the antique lavatories. Call me an old softy!
Your photos of the old terminal 3 crowded conditions don’t look too much different from the current scene in Delta’s “new” terminal 2 these days.
T2 is just a crowded mess! Delta needs to fix that right away. It’s been a hot mess for far too long!!
The one thing that will never change is boarding group 7 passengers will rush the gate when the agent announces, “We’re going to start pre-boarding . . . “

I found the new gates close to one another, creating crowds easily in a matter of minutes.
I kind of wonder if Delta did the best it could, dealing with a poopy space to begin with.
