Which Hilton Amex Card is the Best?
Longtime readers probably know what I’m going to say: “the best card” depends on your budget, spending habits, and travel goals and needs.
I have too many Amex cards in my portfolio right now and need to thin the herd. But if I were going to get one of these cards, I’d probably go for the Aspire or Surpass.
The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card offers a lot of bang for its $450 annual fee. (See Rates and Fees.) The $250 airline incidental credit (enrollment required), free Weekend Reward Night each year, and Priority Pass Select membership get you close to recouping that annual fee. And Diamond status is thrown in, too. And if you stay at a Hilton Resort once a year, you get up to $250 back in statement credits for purchases made directly with those properties. And if you’re a Conrad or Waldorf Astoria fan, you can also get $100 backs on an eligible stay.
Combine all those perks and you’re practically making money.

The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card doesn’t offer many of the Aspire’s bells and whistles. But its annual fee is $355 cheaper — and waived the first year during this limited-time promotion. It gives you 10 free visits to Priority Pass Select lounges each year. (Enrollment required) But many of us already have a card that gives us unlimited Priority Pass Select visits. And for the Hilton diehards, the card offers a Weekend Reward Night after you spend $15,000 on the card within a calendar year.
I like the Surpass’ card’s point-earning structure: 6X at U.S. restaurants, U.S. supermarkets, and U.S. gas stations — all places most of us visit on the regular. Plus, 12X on Hilton stays is a decent return.
If it’s a Hilton business card you want, the decision is pretty much made for you. There’s just one: the Hilton Honors American Express Business Card. That card and the consumer/personal Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card are fairly similar.
The Hilton Honors American Express Card is fine for anyone who hasn’t held the card and loves the welcome offer. It’s also a decent option if you’re deathly averse to annual fees. The card’s everyday spending bonus points earnings are close to the Surpass’. But that’s about it.
