Here’s When Delta Rollover MQM Will Start Posting in 2022

Delta Air Lines announced this summer it would roll over every SkyMiles member’s MQM to 2022. But similar to last year, Delta is again not only rolling over all MQM, but extending the perk to everyone — not just elite status holders. (Usually, any excess MQM above a Medallion member’s status level are rolled over to the next year.)

So when you can expect to see your rollover MQM post to your Delta account?

Wait: MQM Don’t Immediately Rollover?!

If you’re new to Delta SkyMiles and/or haven’t ever had MQM rollover, you may not know that your SkyMiles profile resets your elite status balances on December 31, usually around 10:00 or 11:00 PM Eastern Time. So don’t be shocked when you see something this on New Year’s Eve (yes, it’s a screenshot from a couple of years ago):

Zero Delta MQM, MQD, and MQS balance

Delta doesn’t roll over MQS, MQD, or Delta Amex spending figures. So you’ll see goose eggs in those sliders until you accrue any action. But the MQM meter will be stuck at zero for a bit (unless you complete any flights early in the year). It takes a few metaphorical minutes for Delta to roll over everyone’s MQM.

When can you breathe a little easier and see those glorious MQM pop up in your SkyMiles account?

Delta says members can expect to see them as soon as January 2. But the process could take as long as approximately January 31. (I don’t remember ever hearing it taking longer than mid-January).

Anecdotally, Diamonds and Delta 360 members are generally the first ones to see rollover MQM posted to their accounts. Then Platinums, followed by Golds, Silvers, and general SkyMiles members. That’s what we’ve seen from our own experience and reports from readers. Your (Sky)mileage may vary. I won’t be at all surprised if a general SkyMiles member sees their MQM post on January 2 and a Diamond waits until January 4 or 5. (That’s not at all a knock against Delta’s IT.) If your SkyMiles don’t post by February 1, consider giving Delta a call then. But it should certainly be sooner than that. Delta’s MQM rollover technology has improved, IMHO, during the past several years.

And thank you again to Delta for rolling over the MQM to 2022!

    Chris,
Any word on Delta offering the chance to buy
MQM/ MQS to elevate your status? My wife is 1 segment shirt of gold and will not be able to do a quick hop to get that segment.

Delta is not offering that this year. Mrs. Harry could call Delta and ask if they’d be willing to throw her a bone just this once and “gift” the additional segment. Worst case scenario: they say no and she’s out whatever time she spent on the phone. I doubt it would work but it can’t hurt to call.

        Chris,
An update on my wife missing gold status by one segment. She got an email from Delta a couple of days into the new year letter her know Delta appreciated all of her flying in 2021 and they gifted her one segment to reach golf status! Very nice gesture on Deltas part!

    Great info! Thank you!
Question: I did a Platinum Challenge last spring and completed all the requirements to maintain Platinum through year end. Then I read that Delta was extending the statuses through 2023 for everyone…even those who completed challenges. Mt screen today, Jan 2, reads like your example, not showing the Platinum status for 2022…any ideas or insight?
Thanks so much! And Happy New Year!

HNY, Mark. Give it a few days. Delta just started rolling over MQM. It might take a bit.
