During a recent trip to New York, my wife and I experienced two different hotels: the InterContinental Times Square (reviewed here) and W New York – Times Square. (The InterContinental is basically Times Square-adjacent. But the W is right there in Times Square.)

Our stay was brief (about 24 hours) — but one we thought was pretty good. Below are several pictures as well as a few thoughts about the property!

Why We Chose New York – Times Square

My wife and I love New York City. (We keep threatening to stay in Greenwich Village but haven’t yet done that.)

We were in town for a wedding but had to cancel our previous reservation at a lower east side hotel. We stayed two nights at the InterContinental Times Square. But there was no availability at that hotel for the third night. We wanted to stay somewhere close to the InterContinental and simply walk to another hotel.

There are several Marriott Bonvoy properties in Times Square. (i.e. Marriott Marquis, W, and Renaissance Hotel)  Plus, I have complimentary Bonvoy gold status, thanks to my The Platinum Card® from American Express card membership. (Enrollment is required to take advantage of this benefit. It’s also available on The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.)

We’ve always heard nice things about W Times Square. So we decided to stay there!

Where is W New York – Times Square?

The hotel’s official address is 1567 Broadway, New York, NY 10036. But you’ll enter the hotel on the south side of W. 47th Street between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue.

It’s a few blocks away from the Times Square–42nd Street and 50 Street MTA rail stations. (If you’re like me and enjoy taking the subway to/from the airport. 🙂 )

There’s a “W New York – Times Square” banner in front of the entrance.

You’ll see a pair of these potted plants.

The lobby is located on the tower’s seventh floor.

The sign says that “only guests of the hotel are allowed.” But we saw no one enforcing this mandate.

The lobby and registration desk are on floor 7.

We waited about ten minutes to check in. Only two other sets of guests were ahead of us — but both had lists of questions longer than that of a blogger prying for information. 🙂 There were only two receptionists on duty.

But the rep who eventually helped us was very kind and apologized profusely for the delay. He also offered us a couple of bottles of water. We were assigned a room on the 35th floor.

We think we ended up with a “Wonderful” room (W’s description, not ours.)

The windows offered decent views.

Looking southwest from a room at W New York – Times Square hotelBe forewarned that Times Square is often loud. We heard plenty of loud music thumping, people screaming and yelling (mostly because they were having fun, I think), and other sounds rising up from street level up to our room.

The room itself was pretty nice. Nothing that made us go, “Wow!” But it did the job just fine.

Both my wife and I really liked was the clear nightstands. Their designs make it easy at departure time — when you may leave behind something you stuffed in a nightstand.

USB-A ports are available on both nightstands.

Here’s the bathroom.

I’m not ashamed to admit it: I had no idea how to operate the sink. We eventually figured out, though! Below is an image of where you’ll find the water’s on/off lever.

This property features Acca Kappa toiletries. (I love Acca Kappa’s cologne.)

Overall, the room was clean and comfortable. The bed was good (but the pillows weren’t quite as good as the ones at Delano Las Vegas or most IHG properties — which seem to have the best).

Living Room Bar at W New York – Times Square

We obviously had to take a few minutes and do our blog research at the Living Room: the W Hotel’s lobby bar. 🙂

We took our spots on a sofa and sat across from a very fun group of guests celebrating a birthday. (Watching them down exotic, throat-burning shots was entertaining.)

A DJ spun music — and the bar got a little loud at times.

Our server, Haly, provided excellent and friendly service. She was knowledgeable about the bar menu and helpfully provided suggestions for signature cocktails.

Be warned: the drinks are a bit on the spendy side. (My Buffalo Trace was a single shot.)

Final Approach

We enjoyed our brief stay at W New York – Times Square. It wasn’t anything incredibly special. But that’s fine for my wife and me; we rarely spend much time in our hotel rooms when visiting New York City (or most other places).

But if I were there for work and a client put me at the W Times Square, I’d absolutely be fine with it. There was enough room to get work done — and the property’s location is great.

Have you ever stayed at W New York – Times Square?

I stayed there right before Covid and had the Cool Corner Suite. I loved the hotel and was there for four nights. The resort fee was offset with a bar credit and I made good use of that! My only complaint was the darkness for the inside, I needed to use Braille to find my room and the elevator buttons!!! I would stay there again in a second. I was short on points last week so stayed at the Hotel Edison next door and no comparison……
