I’m proud to introduce you to our blog’s new brand: Eye of the Flyer!
Thursday, July 1, starts my third year owning and operating this blog. So I decided to change things up a little.
We received a lot of questions since I published “The End of Rene’s Points” on Tuesday night. People asked if Rene’s dead. (I called him to ask. He said he’s still alive.) Others asked about mileage runs. Some asked if René will write for the blog again.
So here are a bunch of questions and answers!
What’s New with the Blog?
A few things.
First and foremost, we have the new name and branding.
Secondly, we simplified the menu bar a bit.
Content-wise, we don’t expect any major changes in our future posts. Most of our previously published content is still available. We’re pruning a bunch of the outdated stuff. So now’s your last chance to read up on SPG points and FlexPerks cards 🙂 .
We think most everything is fairly ship-shape, though there will be some under-the-hood adjustments here and there during the coming months. Our affiliate partners will gradually replace the old Rene’s Points branding with Eye of the Flyer branding.
But if you run into a problem (dead links, something that doesn’t work, etc.), please email me!
There will be some tweaks and minor changes made during the next couple of days. It’s kind of like moving into a new home. Even after you get the furniture arranged, there’s stuff you find that needs minor repairs. Or you notice something you didn’t see the first few times you toured the place.
What if I Have Rene’s Points Bookmarked?
RenesPoints.com redirects to EyeOfTheFlyer.com. Any links you bookmarked or otherwise saved should automatically take you to their new homes.
Is the Blog Still with Boarding Area and Your Other Partners?
Sure is! I’m proud and grateful we’re still partners with Boarding Area. Likewise with CardRatings, Juicy Miles, and other affiliate programs.
I’m incredibly thankful to Randy Petersen and his entire team at Boarding Area, especially those on my rebranding team. Their knowledge, patience, helpfulness, and fantastic attitudes are 100% top-shelf.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. So What’s Up With René? Will He Still Write for the Blog?
Yes! He’s been contributing posts ever since I assumed ownership a couple of years ago.
And he’s my cruise correspondent.
Is Everything OK with René and Chris?
As far as both of us know!
The rebrand wasn’t the result of a feud, problem, legal issue, or anything deliciously controversial like that. In fact, rebranding the site was discussed before I officially acquired the blog.
We have a blast working together. He is an amazing, supportive mentor. On a personal level, we’ve become very close friends.
So as long as we’re happy and having fun, then René will continue contributing to Eye of the Flyer.
Will You Still Post Mileage Runs?!
Of course!

Who Designed the New Logo?
Rick Ehlers is the graphic designer who created our new logo and other branding. I’ve known Rick for about 25 years and recommended several clients to him — who’ve then referred him to their contacts. He’s done everything from business cards to logos to book cover design to elaborate business presentations and more. If you have graphic design needs, get in touch with Rick at optical.overkill@gmail.com.
Anything Else?
Yes. And this is very important.
Thank you for being a loyal visitor. The fact you take time to read the blog, add comments and insight, and share it with others you think may enjoy our content truly is special and never gets old. So thank you again. We sincerely hope you like the new brand and design.
I wonder if anyone else has any big announcements to make this week? (Looking at you, Amex!)

Love Kreuz. Too bad they closed the one in Bryan!
Hello!!!
Good luck to both of you in this new start!
I hadn’t realized you owned the site outright for a couple years Chris. Keep up the good work and congrats on the rebranding. This is literally the only blog I subscribe to
@Kevin – Thank you. So much. We are a great team Chris and I (IMO)!
Thank you!!
Congrats! Looking good!
Good luck with the rebranded site!
So happy to hear that Rene is still alive. Yesterday, I thought there was a chance that a name change was coming because Rene bought the farm .
Depends on the farm. 😉
Good luck to both of you in this new start!
Congrats and good luck! Looking forward to seeing this grow and progress. And great name BTW! Just when I thought all of the good names/domains were taken!
congrats! Love to both of you!
You gotta admit that was the best brisket, no?
Nice rebrand Chris. I’m of course sentimental to the old name but I’ll poke Rene with a stick when needed. Might be often LOL.
Too bad Rene is sticking around… have felt like in the last year or so, he has been a drag on the site and a fresh person might be a better fit. Hope you can find someone!
Nah, we’re good.
Congrats on the new space and the new brand! I look forward to more awesomeness for years to come!
