Five years ago I penned one of the most read posts on the blog and one that ranks inside the top 20 Google searches for “Is Delta Comfort Plus worth it“. To sum up that post in a few words – NO – Delta Comfort Plus is a joke. It is the exact same seat as the rest of coach with a tiny bit more leg room. If I am not in Delta One, First or Premium Select I choose the exit row vs. Delta Comfort Plus.
Uber has, during COVID, come up with a new category of cars they are terming “Comfort Cars”. They tell us you get:
Ride Preferences – When a rider requests an Uber Comfort trip, they will be able to indicate the below preferences, which will be shown in your Driver app when you arrive at their pickup location.
- Temperature: Whether your rider prefers a warm or cool climate.
- Conversation: Whether your rider needs to focus or is free to chat.
Extended pickup times – Riders using Uber Comfort will have a little more time before they can be charged a cancellation fee. Riders will pay higher per-minute wait time fees on Uber Comfort than UberX.
Delivering a more comfortable experience. Here are a few things top driver-partners have told us they do to provide excellent service:
- Performing pickups, drop-offs and navigation confidently
- Keeping the vehicle clean
- Making sure the car smells clean and fresh
- Running GPS in silent mode
- Being friendly, courteous and professional
On my recent visit to Miami South Beach for a few days of sun and fun I decided to try this ~20% upcharge experience over a stock UberX ride.
Let me tell you – I AM SOLD!
I don’t think I will ever order an UberX again if Comfort cars are available. I love being able to tell the driver, in advance via the app, that I want the car hot or cold and that I really don’t want to have a conversation with the driver. Beyond that having a larger newer car is just great.
On our ride to the Kimpton Surfcomber hotel from the Miami Airport area we got a Ford Flex and on the way back to the airport from South Beach a Honda Passport. Both cars were perfect, clean, and the rides were 5 star.
I simply see very little need to ever pay for an Uber Premier car unless it is a situation where I am on my way to a cruise and have a ton of luggage and want a large SUV to not have an issue with space.
Bottom line – Uber has done Comfort right with this new category of cars. This is an upcharge I am happy to pay a bit extra for! – René

Rene, there is one problem. By selecting a ‘comfort’ ride you are limiting the pool of vehicles that can respond to your request. In these times of outrageous rental car prices and limited Uber & Lyft drivers, I want the 1st available vehicle rather than having to wait a longer time for my ride.
@Steve – Oh sure if time is an issue then that overrides comfort. But for me the wait times were under 10 min each ride. That is OK for me.
Mr de lambert,
How big are these comfort cars? Are they really big? How big are they compared to the economy style cars? Thanks!
@Than Dihn – For me, compare it to renting an economy car vs renting a mid or full size car.
