I am starting to get excited about 2022. While my 2021 travel will be so limited that I will only reach Silver Medallion this year (to maximize my MQM rollover, FYI) I will be crushing travel in January to reach Diamond in just one month and have my Delta Diamond Medallion status for two full years!
With international travel back on my itinerary starting next year, it was time this month to renew my global entry. I used my trusty old Amex Platinum Card to pay for my renewal online and already have my credit for the charge (you get the credit 1x every 5 years from the Platinum card). I have a number of cards that offer this credit and in almost every situation you can pay for ANYONE’S Global Entry fee and get the credit (the credit card companies don’t care who – just that the charge is for global entry).
I have had Global Entry (that includes TSA PreCheck) for a long time now. This is, in fact, my second renewal and, boy, has the Trusted Traveler Program website changed. All my old login info was gone. But once inside all my info was still correct and current. I did not take screenshots but I updated all my info and was presented with:
COVID has impacted everything as we all well know and this is resulting in the above that a “grace period” is in effect for us who currently hold Global Entry and reapply. I would rather not fall into that group so I took advantage of now being less than 1 year out from my expiration date and began the renewal process.
Last time the renewal was reasonably quick and my guess is renewals will be much quicker than new applications – but who knows. Either way, I have the ball rolling in the right direction for 2022! Have you taken the step to renew your Global Entry yet? – René

I thought this was about long wait times for global entry not renewal. Anyway, I renewed about 6 months ago without issue. Don’t recall it taking long. But my passport renewal was 9 months!
Regarding global entry itself, I went through JFK global entry and it was confusing. The machines were inoperative, and after waiting in line for maybe 5 -8 minutes it turned out I was in the wrong line even though I was directed to it for global entry. They processed me at another station without wait though.
Right now global entry is not too relevant with all the short lines. My flight to Thailand had 40 on it and 90 on return.
@Fathiss – Mine is still pending and request to renew was done weeks ago. Also, the waring is on the TTP renewal page and I wanted to share it with readers.
I applied for my renewal the day after my birthday (364 days before expiration) this year, got an email that I was approved 6 weeks later, and last week (10 days after approval), my new card came in the mail. This is in stark contrast to my spouse who applied for renewal in August of 2020, and it took 10 months be approved……… or a good friend who applied in May 2020, and it took 12 months. Was I lucky? Are we back to normal? Does the change in Administration have anything to do with it? Anyone’s guess.
@Don in ATL – Thanks for the feedback and data points.
This was a complete wreck for me. My passport expired just before covid hit. I had no plans for intl travel so I delayed a few weeks trying to renew it. Then it all shut down. 4 months later my global entry was expiring, couldn’t even schedule a renewal for the grace period because my passport was expired. So I’m out of luck all around…
I applied for renewal March 1st of this year. Got the conditional approval April 23. Scheduled my interview at the downtown Chicago office for May 3rd. Took under 5 minutes and had the full approval the next day.
Hi Rene, I renewed by Global Entry in Dec 2020 and it took me less than 5 days to complete. Believe it has to do with me having a security clearance as a federal employee as my background investigation completed a couple of months prior. My sister who was initial signup to the program took 6 months for her interview. She had to expedite her passport as it was expired and the Amex platinum benefit was golden_we both have non Delta one. I’ve the business reserve card so would love for that benefit to be there.
I’m glad we both did the update as we will not have a problem to do partner MR. When I reviewed your post which mentioned MQM rollover, I may have 2nd thoughts. Have MQM for PM but no MQD just yet. Pretty much flying most of the weekends in June and 4th of July. Going to LAX, SFO and a couple of trips to ATL from DCA. Have a AM mileage run to MEX for the 4th of July. Using miles and cash for a couple of trips since Delta offers MQM/MQD on miles tickets.
So the question is how do you determine to shoot for next status or rollover a ton of MQM and try the following year? Rollover PM level and I want to try for DM as this is my best chance. Do have a Juicy MR in September so I think I need one more partner MR for DM but I’d be ok with PM if I’m halfway to DM. Love to hear your thoughts (or Chris).
@Stacy – I really want to be Diamond in 2022 as I intend to travel much more. For me, personally, I have the circumstances to hammer JAN 2022 and with big rollover be Diamond again by month end. But I like your plan to make Diamond now (plus the Delta bonus bumps are nice till end of year) and be ready to start 2022 Diamond already locked in. I think there will be a TON of Platinum’s in 2022 so I would go for Diamond if you are going to travel a bunch in 2022.
Agree with me Chris???
My Nexus renewal took less than three weeks for new card to show up.
Quick question: When any of you were renewing your Global Entry, did they issue you a new Global Entry card as part of the renewal?
Thanks.
Yes, new picture, new card.
Renewed Global Entry for my mother in May or June of 2020 (don’t remember the exact date) but from the time I clicked send on the application to the time the new card was received in the mail was less than 72 hours. (Renewed at about 11pm on Tuesday, approved by 9am Wednesday and card was in the mail at her house Friday morning!) I’m guessing she got super lucky?!?
Did mine in feb and got a date of july 12 at dfw
Airport.
I just renewed Nexus that was expiring in December. Approved in two days and received card eight days later with a ten year old picture (this was my second “no interview” renewal).
My wife and I both have Global Entry which expired later this year. Both of us filed to renew, her’s was auto approved with no interview and she got her card maybe 2 weeks later. I got tentative approval and scheduled an interview which was only a week out (2 days ago), got my approval about 20 minutes after I finished the interview. My twin sons however were told they could not renew early, no reason given.
