Cha-Ching! Slot Machines Coming to Chicago Airports?
Las Vegas McCarran Harry Reid(?) and Reno-Tahoe International are the only US airports to offer gambling on their grounds. But that might change.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the successful bidder for a new, major Chicagoland resort-casino will also score another big deal: a slot machine concession at O’Hare and Midway.
In the Las Vegas airport (and perhaps Reno), gaming revenue helps offset airport operations costs. That, of course, is music to airlines’ ears. But the Chicago airports gambling profits would leave the property and go elsewhere: to firefighter and police pension funds.
The new resort is slated to open in 2025.
Alaska Airlines Bans a Senator!
An Alaskan state senator is persona no grata at Alaska Airlines.
The Anchorage Daily News says Senator Lora Reinbold (R-Eagle Creek) is banned from flying the airline. Why?
“We have notified Senator Lora Reinbold that she is not permitted to fly with us for her continued refusal to comply with employee instruction regarding the current mask policy,” [Alaska Airlines] spokesman Tim Thompson told the news outlet.
Now she’s taking the scenic route for traveling. And I mean the really scenic route:
Reinbold embraced an alternate travel solution: Over the weekend, she drove more than 700 miles from her home in Eagle River through a swath of Alaska and part of the Yukon to the Southeast town of Haines, where she caught a five-hour ferry ride to Juneau.
