We came across another good Delta mileage run from New York’s JFK. It’s a quick trip to Las Vegas in Main Cabin — and projected to earn 9,861 MQM for just under $285.
The key to this mileage run is connecting in Seattle — both on the way to Vegas and the ride back home.
Several dates are available in May — but only one (May 11) doesn’t require staying overnight in Sin City. (But if you’re looking for a midweek getaway and want to crash for a night in Vegas, here’s a great opportunity. Maybe burn some IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card bonus points over at Venetian or cash in some free nights at an MGM Resorts property with World of Hyatt Credit Card points.)
Here’s what the run looks like:
There are some routes through ATL and LAX which cost about the same — but yield a few hundred fewer miles. The tradeoff, though, is you might be able to snag an upgrade to a lie-flat bed. ATL is running some flights on 767-400s equipped with Delta One Suites. LAX to JFK is operated on 767-300s with Delta One lie-flats.
There is about five and a half hours to kill between arrival into Vegas and the departure back to SEA. According to American Express, the Las Vegas Centurion Lounge is currently open until 6:00 PM. So that’s certainly an option if you have The Platinum Card® from American Express (See Rates and Fees) and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express (See Rates and Fees). Or if you purchase your ticket with any American Express card, your Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card (See Rates and Fees) and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card (See Rates and Fees) will let you in, too.
Keep in mind that Centurion Lounge access is limited to passengers on departing flights — and then only three hours (or less) before departure time.
If you’re thinking about The Club (Priority Pass), its website says that the lounge is closed and no reopening information is available.
Because Delta is awarding 50% MQM and MQD bonuses on Main Cabin trips, this trip is projected to earn approximately 9,861 MQM and $333 MQD. The going rate is $284.40.
