I think the people most excited about today’s news that Delta is giving MQM, MQD, and MQS bonuses are probably the hub-captive folks in MSP, DTW, ATL, and SLC.
We found a pretty sweet Delta mileage run from Detroit to Anchorage — in first class. Our estimates based on the 75% bonuses: about 16,856 MQM, 7 MQS, and $1058 MQD. It currently costs $680.50.
Our search yielded only a few dates for this particular itinerary — which involves an eight-hour layover in Anchorage (plenty of time to take a float plane ride like René did!)
But head to this page on Google Flights to play around with the dates based on your needs. You may find something that works better for you.
Here’s our sample itinerary:
I know the MQM and MQD figures on Delta.com don’t reflect the 50% bonuses. We’re trying to get word from Delta as to when those will “officially” start updating.
MQMs earned through flight activity on Delta are calculated based on distance flown and fare class purchased – your bonus will be applied to this value.
-
For example, if you would usually earn 2,000 MQMs on a flight booked in First Class based on the distance and fare class purchased, you would earn 3,500 MQMs.
So based on that, here’s what this trip should earn:
- Cost: $680.50
- Route: DTW-SEA-ANC-MSP-DTW
- MQM: 16,856 (4.03 CPM)
- MQD: $1058
- Base SkyMiles: 3,025
“But When Are You Posting a Mileage Run I Want?!”
If you want help planning a mileage run from your hometown or something that will score you a bunch of MQD, I highly recommend you get in touch with our friends at Juicy Miles. In fact, they have a Delta expert who will personally craft the most ideal mileage run around your parameters.
Enjoy!

I’m like the mileage run DJ.
@Josh – Not all that hard to position to DTW from MSP 😉
Most of these AK runs rely on routing through SEA it seems like, any tips for looking for potential runs in the reverse direction (i.e. starting from SEA)?
Yes: take a positioning trip somewhere to start a run if you can’t find something from your preferred airport.
I scored a mileage run DTW-MSP-ANC and ANC-MSP-DTW in F the 3rd weekend in May. Any thoughts on where to spend 2 nights in ANC – midtown or downtown?
Any Anchorage vets have recommendations?
