A regional airline is getting some attention after telling its unvaccinated pilots to hold off getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Plus, yet another airline passenger thought it a good idea to open the emergency exit door — while the plane was airborne.
Those are some of the day’s travel-related headlines I thought you, too, may find interesting.
Pilots Stuck with Discouraging News — Instead of Vaccine Needles
Piedmont Airlines reportedly asked some pilots to wait a bit before getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
CBS News got its hands on a memo about “American Airlines subsidiary Piedmont Airlines [discouraging] pilots from getting COVID vaccines last weekend ‘due to high demand’ for flying.”
Apparently, there weren’t enough pilots to cover trips in the event some aviators took time off to get vaccinations.
The FAA does not allow pilots to fly for 48 hours after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine shot, a regulation that could strain the airline’s ability to keep pace with increasing travel demand that had it “operating at near capacity of both aircraft and available crews,” according to the memo.
Weird. A pilot shortage. Who saw that coming?!

Spirit Flight Diverted — Because a Passenger Tried to Open the Exit Door
The Cleveland to Los Angeles flight was diverted to Denver. The biggest shock? It wasn’t a Las Vegas-bound trip.
