Here’s a classic clip: A Southwest flight attendant encouraged passengers to wave to a United flight and “show them what a full aircraft looks like.”

And a passenger waited until his flight was on the runway before announcing he has COVID.

We’ll get to those stories and much more in a few minutes. But first, here’s a quick recap of this past week at Rene’s Points!

Amex and Delta teamed up to offer some pretty massive welcome offers on the cobranded SkyMiles cards.

Delta made a few of great enhancements (like, actually positive ones) to their Upgrade Certificates. Plus, you can now bring multiple companions with you AND use the certs on award tickets!

One of our readers received a very pleasant surprise: his Diamond Medallion status was seemingly extended into January 2023.

The Fly Delta app appeared to extend some SkyMiles members’ Companion Certificates and vouchers again — but don’t get too excited.

How fun does this sound? Qantas is selling flights to mystery destinations.

A Delta passenger reportedly died during a flight Thursday.

Chase introduced a credit card for students.

We may be able to take a spin — literally — on a space hotel sometime within the next 7 or 8 years.

René pondered the value and future of Delta SkyMiles.

MGM Resorts named a major company as its “Official Guest Disinfectant and Hand Sanitizer “provider.

The annual fee posted to my most recent Business Platinum Card® from American Express statement. So I decided to see if they had any retention offers available. Here’s how that went.

Southwest Snark

So, this video is apparently three years old. But the humor is timeless. (And I’d never seen it until it popped up on my Instagram timeline yesterday.) I thought you may get a kick out of it — whether it’s your first time watching it or you’ve already seen it.

Again: the video is very pre-pandemic. So this is back in the day when full flights didn’t scare the bejesus out of everyone.

I’m guessing the voice belongs to a flight attendant — not because the person is female but the plane appears to be on approach (looks like SFO to me.). I’m guessing the pilots are were too busy at that point of the flight to try out their comedy material. But, hey, it’s Southwest. So who knows.

This makes me long for a Friday afternoon Southwest flight from Burbank to Vegas.

I am glad some of you out there are having better luck than I am with Delta. Besides charging double or more for the same flight to anywhere (I have a million miles in the kitty to use) than American (I only have 300,000 with them. (But I don’t wait on line with American for an hour plus and they treat me very well.

And the latest was when I changed my e-mail address and they refuse to make the change unless I forward proof of who I am. I guess they want me to waste 2 hours going to the airport. All they have to do to confirm is to contact American Express. Go figure. From my standpoint the service just continues to get worse not better. Larry Wulker
