Avelo Airlines is apparently coming to Hollywood-Burbank Airport in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley.
On a piece airing this morning on the KTLA 5 Morning News, anchor Frank Buckley reported the airline is “looking to hire pilots, flight attendants, technicians, customer service crew members, and more in the months ahead.”
He added the airline said it plans to have a total of 150 employees — which will make it the largest employer at BUR.
That sounds interesting, considering Southwest Airlines is sort of “the” big airline at Burbank. I’m also curious how many gates Avelo will use — considering the airport is generally pretty busy in non-pandemic times.

What is Avelo Airlines?
Avelo Airlines is the rebranded XTRA Airways that specialized in charter flights. On XTRA’s website, it says:
In a world where air travel has become increasingly maddening for far too many people, we’re introducing a new airline that promises a simpler, smoother and — dare we say — more caring travel experience.
In the weeks ahead, XTRA Airways will become Avelo Airlines – transforming three decades of safe, reliable and personalized air charter service into America’s newest airline; A better kind of airline devoted to connecting people to the experiences they value most.
Instagram account @planespottingcvg posted what’s believed to be the first image of an Avelo 737 spotted “in the wild,” if you will.

No word yet on Avelo’s other destinations, airfares, or how they’re going to make air travel better. Or when they’ll even start operations. But you can sign up for email alerts at their website.
