It’s official. Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport will soon be no more: it’s getting a new name.
Plus, Tampa’s pirate boat parade has officially been canceled for this year.
Those were some of the day’s news headlines I thought you, too, may find interesting.
Harry Reid International Airport
The Clark County (NV) Commission officially approved a name change for Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport. It’ll eventually be called Harry Reid International Airport in honor of the long-serving senator from the Silver State.
It’ll reportedly cost $2 million to rebrand the airport — but will (allegedly) be covered by private donations.
Pat McCarran — the politician currently on the airport’s name — was labeled an anti-Semite and anti-immigrant. (Yeah, that’s pretty gross.) Though if Clark County wanted to steer clear of naming its airport after someone controversial, I’m a little surprised they went with Mr. Reid — who had to apologize for remarks he made about then-candidate Barack Obama.

ARGH! Tampa Pirate Boat Parade Canceled
Sorry, mateys. The 2021 edition of Tampa’s annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival was canceled because of COVID-19 pandemic concerns.
Word on the street is that corn is sold at the event — but costs a buck an ear. (Sorry. Dad joke.)

Insane waste of taxpayers $$$$$ to change the airport name
Reports say it’s being covered by private donations.
So, the name change was a transaction.
I wonder if Harry Reid also covered the cost of finding the “dirt” on McCarran? What’s next, dropping the name Las Vegas because it was built by the mafia on the backs of prostitutes and immigrants?
