Attention passengers going through LAX’s Terminal 2: keep your eyes peeled for a hard drive. Why? A $50,000 reward could be yours!
Rapper Swae Lee of hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd posted to Instagram that he lost a hard drive at the Los Angeles airport this past Monday morning. And the drive has some fairly important data on it: all of his music — including tracks for an upcoming album.

The next day, he seemingly upped the ante to $50,000.

In a profanity-laced audio Tweet (consider yourself warned), Mr. Lee implored that whoever finds it to send him a picture of the drive. (It seems people are trying to cash in — and sending him pictures of hard drives that aren’t his.) He noted that 80% of the tracks are locked, so the finder won’t be able to enjoy most of the music anyway.

The reason to keep your eyes open is so you can help a man in distress, not so you can earn $50K!
You are right about the importance of backing up data. I hope anyone reading this that doesn’t back up data will start doing so now. I also hope he already does that and that his concern is security.
I once lost a religious item during travel that was of no value to most people so I doubt it was stolen. I never got it back despite retracing my steps and making multiple calls to the airport, TSA and airline. It probably ended up in a garbage can. I hope he is more fortunate in this regard. I have on the other hand left a couple of things in an airport and had them returned. So there is hope.

Seriously though, who bothers to “lock” 80% of the hard drive but NOT back it up in the cloud. I seriously hope he finds it but if the airport found it they likely tossed it. Most public places aren’t saving items for lost and found due to covid.

Welp, I guess we found out.
Well, hope he finds his hard drive but if it’s been several days it probably did get tossed.
A couple of years ago I lost my Fitbit Alta while getting off a Thai Airlines flight in Bangkok but didn’t realize it until we got to our hotel. The hotel club lounge staff were great and called the BKK airport’s Lost and Found and Thai Airlines (since we can’t speak Thai!) to inquire about the lost item but it was never turned in or recovered. Strangely, no one ever tried to re-activate it because I did contact Fitbit and they said there was no activity after I lost it.
However also at BKK, my husband once forgot his Nikon DSLR camera in one of the luggage carts while we were loading our luggage into a cab and didn’t realize it until we got to the hotel and thought it was gone forever! Of course his memory card with all the rest of our trip pictures was in the camera and we though we’d never see it again. But the amazing hotel staff called BKK’s Lost and Found to inquire for us. Surprisingly it had been turned in! So we went back to claim it; so a good ending and hopefully someone may turn in his hard drive!
