The 2020 series finale ain’t over yet, folks.
News broke late tonight that Los Angeles and San Diego will face government-mandated shutdowns starting on Saturday afternoon. This comes hours after five counties in the San Francisco Bay Area voluntarily decided to implement stay-at-home orders.
And, of course, a minor earthquake rattled the Temecula area between LA and San Diego.
Go home, 2020. You’re drunk.
KTLA’s Mary Beth McDade and Erika Martin report, “The [Southern California] stay-at-home order goes into effect at 1 p.m. Saturday, and the region will be expected to implement the new restrictions within 24 hours of that time, according to Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner.”
What does this mean for travelers?
Similar to the Bay Area situation, hotels and other lodging providers likely cannot serve nonessential travelers. (Tourists, other leisure travelers, those visiting friends and family, etc.)
As TPG’s Clint Henderson notes, air and rail passengers arriving in LA must sign a form acknowledging there’s a request they self-quarantine for two weeks.
So what else is affected?
In regions where the order is triggered, the following businesses must close: Restaurants for all on-site dining, wineries and breweries, playgrounds, indoor recreational facilities, hair salons, personal car services, museums, movie theaters, cardrooms and casinos, and family entertainment centers.
Retail stores and shopping centers can stay open indoors at 20% capacity. Hotels may remain open for critical infrastructure support, as can offices. Churches and places of worship can hold outdoor services. Professional sports can continue without live audiences, as can production of films and other entertainment.
Schools serving K-12 students will not be affected by the order. Those open for classroom instruction now can remain so.
PERSONAL GATHERINGS
If the order is triggered in a region, people will be ordered to limit travel and mixing with people outside their household as much as possible. The order says members of the same household will still be allowed to go outside for physical activity.
But, hey, maybe just say that you work in the entertainment industry. That seems to be a Get Outta Lockdown Free card in Los Angeles:

Final Approach
Like I said in the Bay Area Shutdown post, don’t come here to California for a while. Just don’t. The rules are conflicting (at best) and change on a whim.

Crazy liberal cities states governors and mayor do as I say not as I do is the mantra!!some counties such as sonoma have been in purple lockdown since March so apparently it is not helping!!but to control their Taxpayers
Don’t get me wrong Covid is not something you want to get, trust me on that but. If you are going to shutdown society to prevent the spread then ALL non-essential businesses must be shut down or there are holes in the idea. This means it should include schools, professional sports, production of films, and other entertainment. I’m a risk manager by profession and I primarily work with counties and cities to avoid hazards and risk. Personally, I’m not a fan of shutdowns like these but if you’re going to do it, do it all in and for a short period. You can prevent the spread, only slow it down but if there are holes in your system it doesn’t work like it should for the pain and cost inflicted.
