We’ve received plenty of emails, blog comments, and social media messages about the Delta SkyMiles Amex cards‘ “Track Your Status Boost” counter not updating.
The feature on American Express’s website tracks a Delta Amex card’s annual cumulative eligible spending toward MQM bonuses. It’s a helpful tool saving you the time of manually searching a card’s year-to-date spend, factoring out annual fees (and, tsk, tsk: late penalties and interest), etc.
Amex states explicitly on the site that the counter “Updates daily.”
And since about January, it did.
Reader david asked me on September 9 if I noticed anything awry with my Status Boost tracker. That was the first I’d heard of the issue, so I kept an eye on the Amex site. Sure enough, my Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card has been stuck on the same spend figure since at least that time — despite my making more purchases.
Then, reader Scott H. referred me to this FlyerTalk thread discussing this issue. Some people theorized the problem could be related to the Delta Amex Offer for 500 bonus SkyMiles and MQM for every $1,000 an eligible cardholder spends. That certainly seems like a plausible explanation.
However, I registered my Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express and Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card for the offer, as they were my only two targeted cards. Yet I made some more purchases on the Reserve card — and the Track Your Status Boost tracker didn’t budge.
Some people were told that the counter updates when their statements close. But that contradicts what the Amex site says about how it “updates daily.” FlyerTalker slcdc reported being told the boost tracker was in “beta testing mode.” Another, Taz, got a No, it’s their issue! loop from Delta and Amex.
One thing that pretty everyone agrees on: the Delta Amex spend levels are correct on the Fly Delta app and Delta website. So that’s a plus.
Amex Says They Know — and Are On the Case
After digging a little deeper, I can tell you American Express confirmed that they are aware of the issue and are working quickly to resolve it.
Until then, we have to figure out our spending levels in the old fashioned way: going into our statements and activity, selecting year-to-date… (Ah, first world problems. 😉 )
But I’m told a fix is on the way. I’ll let you know if I hear anything more!

@Chris: Thanks for the update. I called Amex about this twice earlier this week. The first time, they told me I needed d to clear my cookies & then login on a different browser. That didn’t work, so I called back the next day and was told it only updates when my statement closes. I pointed out that the Amex site says it updates daily. They countered that they didn’t like the wording on the site but it meant that it only updates daily when my statement closes. I know it used to update every day regardless of closing.
cute purple cards Chris
Amex told me that I hadn’t met the spend due to refunds, which is crap. I can’t claim my bonus due to their tracker. So the problem is bigger than the tracker on the website.
The curious thing is that my Delta Skymiles account has been accurately tracking my card spend for purposes of the MQD waiver, which suggests that Delta is able to pull accurate spend figures from Amex – which in turn means that Amex is still keeping an accurate count of my card spend somewhere. I’m not sure what exactly is going on behind the scenes there.
No, tracker is not updating when statement closes. Also, more importantly, I reached the 30K spending threshold on my latest statement and am unable to get the 15,000 bonus MQMs.
Did you double-check your spam and promotions (or something similar) email folders to see if Delta sent you the option to gift or claim the MQM for yourself?
No notification email from Delta. Tried to get the points on the Delta website as done in the past and get message “you haven’t qualified.”
Geez. That stinks.
I didn’t get my first platinum boost (10000 MQM) either recently when I passed the threshold although I did get the bonus MQM from this promotion.
I’ve had the discussion before with Rene I believe but it’s not necessary to factor annual fees etc. There are two lines. The “Miles Earned for Eligible Purchases” is adjusted to take into account fees that don’t count. The miles earned to date is the amount that counts towards the boost. I used that reliably to spend exactly, to the cent, the amount I needed (and no more) to get all the boosts last year.
The reason MQM boosts are not posting is BECAUSE the tracker is broken. Amex confirmed that and it seems logical and correct considering at least two of us have reported it. I’m surprised nobody else had noticed because I would bet that nobody is getting their spending boosts right now although the extra miles and MQM from the Amex offer are posting.
They expect a fix in the next couple of weeks.
FWIW, my Delta MQM tracker started working again 3 days ago.
My spend number updated — but nowhere near the correct spend level.
@Chris same here.
My 10K Platinum boost just posted today.
Barry, did you contact Amex or Delta specifically to get it to post? I hit my 30k spend on the Delta Reserve about a month ago and I still haven’t gotten my 15k mqm boost. The tracker has the green check on Amex website saying I hit the 30k spend. I thought maybe it’d post after my statement closed but even that hasn’t worked.
For the Reserve, you have to log into your SkyMiles account to accept the MQMs in order for them to post (because Reserve members have the option to gift them to someone else instead). Usually Delta sends an email prompting you to log in and make your selection, or it will automatically post to your account after some period of time (I forget if it’s 30 or 90 days). Once the Amex tracker caught up, I got my notification email before the relevant statement period actually closed.
Thanks Brian! Found a link online to where you go claim the mqms. I guess I just never got the email from Delta or it got lost in spam somewhere. First time with the card so didn’t realize i had to claim them.
Were you awarded the MQM when you did this? I was in the same situation, the tracker says I have earned them but when I go to the claim page it’s saying that I have claimed all that I am entitled to. I spoke with someone I know at Delta who said this was a known issue.
I didn’t see your earlier question. I was waiting for statement close too. I suspect that is the trigger to be able to claim the boost.
Both of my Delta Reserve status boosts this year have come mid-statement cycle as soon as I hit the treshold (according to Amex’s tracker). YMMV – I have no idea how Delta and Amex work these things.
It’s now April 2021 and I still have nothing showing up on the tracker. Anyone else STILL having this issue?
It works for me.
Mine’s working fine, wife’s is working fine. Which card(s) are you using?
My AMEX Delta Platinum Status Boost Tracker is doing this now in Oct. 2023. It’s more than $4000 off. It is making daily adjustments with purchases, but got off track somewhere. Who do I talk to for corrections – Delta or AMEX?
Start with Amex.
No luck on my part getting AMEX to correct the issue. I talked to a representative AMEX and they couldn’t do anything to resolve the issue. The representative read me a qualified spend value that was even lower than the tracker reports. I read to him the actual spend YTD from their website and he would not agree that I was correct.
In the end, he opened a complaint on my account so that they can investigate.
I guess I need to wait and see if AMEX can fix their own inconsistency.
