Delta Air Lines made a few interesting announcements this morning regarding social distancing and seating onboard their aircraft.
Middle Seats to Remain Open into Early 2021
Middle seats on planes with at least three seats in a row (i.e., 3-3, 2-3) will continue to be blocked through at least January 6, 2021. This applies to the Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main cabins.
So if you’re traveling during the Christmas and New Year holiday season, expect more available room on your Delta flights.
For families, friends, or colleagues traveling together, Delta said that middle seats “will appear as available for booking, to allow families and travel companions to select seats together.”
Capacity Control
Delta also said it would limit the number of customers on all aircraft. Plus, First Class will remain at only half capacity.
These policies are effective through at least October 31. When flights start filling up, Delta says it will examine the possibilities of up gauging aircraft.
But there is an exception, it seems, to the first class seating.
All Delta One Seats to Be Available for Purchase
Starting October 1, Delta One cabins on widebody planes will be available at full capacity.
Delta notes that D1 is “designed with more space and privacy built in.”

So Delta One on 757s will remain at 50% in October?
That’s what it sounds like.
Delta really is being the leader here. Very smart for business. Breeding new loyalties.
