Los Angeles metro area residents wanted fireworks last Saturday.
Lots of fireworks.
But (nearly) every public Fourth of July fireworks display was canceled because of COVID-19. So plenty of Southern Californians-turned-amateur-pyrotechnicians seized the opportunity.
And lit up the sky for hundreds of square miles.
Helicopter pilot and aerial photographer Micah Muzio took the skies Saturday night and captured what he (accurately) described as “absolute madness.” One commenter said, “I’ve lived in SoCal for better than 50-years. I must say without a doubt, that July 4, 2020 was the most spectacular, near non-stop display of fireworks that I’ve ever seen.”
(In my part of L.A., fireworks were everywhere — much to my daughter’s delight and dog’s terror.)
You can watch the video below. It’s about an hour long, but some of the fun spots you may enjoy include:
- ~6:30: East Compton
- ~13:15: South Gate
- ~27:00: East Los Angeles
- ~39:00: Downey (which is spelled “Downy” in the video)
A technical glitch knocked out his live narration. So fire up your favorite fireworks-appropriate music and enjoy!
