The leader of a major hotel union suggests that now isn’t the time to stay at a hotel.

Plus, St. Maarten is closed to US commercial flights.

Those are some of the headlines I thought you, too, may find interesting.

Head Of LA Hotel Workers Union: “I Would Not Go To A Hotel Right Now”

The co-president of the union that represents Los Angeles and Orange County (California) hotel workers said the hotel atmosphere there is like “the wild, wild west.”

According to this report, he says workers aren’t getting temperature checks or enough time to properly clean rooms — or even wash their hands.

Oh, and a hotel kitchen worker allegedly contracted COVID-19 “(and) the problem is that the hotel is not telling us or other workers, much less the guests, about that case. And that is contrary to common sense [and] the L.A. County safety guidelines.”

(As someone who lives in Los Angeles, I can attest that common sense and L.A. County aren’t exactly friends.) H/T: Larry K.

St. Maarten Suspends Flights from the United States

If you live in the US, I hope you don’t have any plans to visit SXM any time soon…

RIP, 747?

Forbes reports that “Boeing hasn’t told employees, but the company is pulling the plug on its hulking 747 jumbo jet, ending a half-century run for the twin-aisle pioneer.”

United Tries to Put Delta in the Middle

United Airlines criticized Delta — who is blocking seats through September 30.

CNBC reports, United’s Chief Communication Officer Josh Earnest (his name might be familiar to some) told reporters:

“When it comes to blocking middle seats, that’s a PR strategy, that’s not a safety strategy. When you’re onboard the aircraft, if you’re sitting in the aisle, and the middle seat is empty, the person across the aisle is within 6 feet from you, the person at the window is within 6 feet of you, the people in the row in front of you are within 6 feet of you, the people in the row behind you are within 6 feet of you.”

I understand his point about the six feet. But why does he care? If Delta wants fewer people on their planes, how does that hurt United?

For its part, Delta took to social media.

#ICYMI: We’re extending our commitment to blocking seats through September 30.

Union leaders are always finding reasons why their members should not do their jobs. Good to see that at least something hasn’t changed with COVID-19.
