Less than two weeks after saying it wouldn’t declare bankruptcy, Aeromexico pulled the trigger and filed for Chapter 11 today.
The airline said in a statement that it filed for voluntary Chapter 11 petitions in the United States.
“The Company intends to use the Chapter 11 process to strengthen its financial position and implement necessary operational changes to address the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and create a sustainable platform for the future,” Aeromexico said.
But it’s still business as usual (well, in this environment.). In fact, Aeromexico “expects to double the number of its domestic flights and quadruple the number of international flights as compared to June.”
On June 19, FlightGlobal reported the airline had no intention of filing for bankruptcy.
If you have existing Aeromexico tickets, reservations, vouchers, or Premier Points, let not your heart be troubled. They will still be “valid and available for use.”

We hate seeing airlines in financial trouble. It’s bad news for travelers, of course, but also for airline employees.
Aeromexico MQD runs have been pretty lucrative for people seeking Delta Medallion® status. So on a less important note (than, you know, people’s jobs), let’s hope everything works out for AM.

Any idea what happens to aero mexico points? I got a good amount stored away.
As per the announcement and mentioned in the post, Aeromexico says points are fine and safe.
