A number of Disney theme park employees in California and Florida don’t want the parks to reopen next month.

Plus, Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport may welcome new aircraft: drones!

Those are some of the travel headlines I thought you, too, may find interesting.

Disney Theme Park Workers Don’t Want Parks Reopened Soon

Two petitions supporting Disney theme park workers are garnering interest.

With COVID-19 cases surging in California and Florida, it seems Disneyland and Disney World employees aren’t exactly thrilled their parks are set to open soon.

UPDATE, 5:40 PM PDT: Disneyland will NOT open on July 17 — and has not yet set a date to reopen.

The Disneyland petition says:

On March 27th, 2020 Disney Parks released a statement, “the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains The Walt Disney Company’s top priority.” The solution would be to reschedule Disneyland to reopen the parks at a later date when cases of Covid-19 drop and Health Officials state it is safer for everyone but to still practice social distancing.

Disneyland is located in Orange County — where coronavirus numbers are hitting records. Meanwhile, in the Orlando area, hospitalizations hit a record high. (And, coincidentally, parts of Disney World are also located in that state’s Orange County.)

The Disney World petition says:

This virus is not gone, unfortunately it’s only become worse in this state. Having our theme parks remain closed until cases are steadily decreasing would keep our guests, our employees and their families safe. Re-opening the theme parks is only putting our guests, employees, and families at higher risk for contracting COVID-19. While theme parks are a great way to relax and enjoy free time, it is a non-essential business; it is not fair to the people who work there to risk their lives, especially if they are at risk or have family members who are at risk. People are more important than making a profit.

Drones Over Schiphol?

Don’t be surprised to see (authorized) drones over Schiphol!

Simple Flying reports Amsterdam’s massive airport is testing out the aircraft for a number of operations tasks such as to “inspect taxiways, small buildings, and aircraft with the drones” and also assist with the “transportation of light goods around the airport.”

That could be the reason. There are some other reasons. One is that they are scared and don’t realize that it’s normal to get sick and that the chances of dying from this illness if you are healthy and young is almost zero. The media (except people like Chris) are very much to blame for this. Another is that they like their new lifestyle and it’s hard to go back to the old one.
