Delta Air Lines announced today it’s resuming automatic upgrades for its elite status Medallion members. Plus, seating caps and blocked middle seats will remain in effect through at least September 30.
Automatic Upgrades Return
Delta suspended automatic upgrades to Delta One, first class, and Comfort+ a few weeks ago. The change was originally effective through June 30. But Comfort+ seats weren’t eligible for upgrades even during November flights.
However, Delta said today that as of June 10, it will resume “automatic, advance Medallion Complimentary Upgrades to Delta One (domestic U.S.), First Class and Delta Comfort+ – which were previously being managed at the gate – subject to availability and as permitted by the seat caps.”

Seating Capacity and Middle Seat Reduction Extended
Delta also said it’s maintaining seat capacity at the following levels through September 30:
- 50% in First Class
- 60% in Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+, and Delta Premium Select;
- 75% in Delta One
Further, all middle seats will be unavailable or unassignable through September 30.

Do you think they will remove the requirement to wear a mask soon? I can’t imagine wearing one for more than a 2-hour flight.

My son booked FC middle of July. All FC seats available to choose from. Wonder what happened to 50%.
@greg howell, when all FC seats were available to choose from, then I guess, that less than 50% of FC seats were sold by then. Delta didn’t say that they were blocking 50% of the seats, but that they would cap occupancy at 50%. Know what I mean? Say, there are 16 seats. First one booking may take any seat. But after 8 people no ticket no more.
