A few days ago, the Disney theme parks planned to reopen on April 1. But that won’t happen.
On its website, Disneyland says:
As a result of this unprecedented pandemic and in line with direction provided by health experts and government officials, the Disneyland Resort will remain closed until further notice. We will continue to carefully evaluate this complex and fluid situation.
Disney notes it will work with people who have hotel reservations already booked. Those folks are encouraged to call (714) 520-5050.
Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando are expected to remain closed through (at least) April 19. California-wise, that date coincides with the current expiration of Los Angeles County’s “Safer at Home” order, though governor Gavin Newsom seems to think that might be a tad premature.

As of Friday, March 27, 2020 – the word is all of the major theme parks in southern California will re-open on April 20.
Among those in the know – I’m also heating that the major theme parks throughout southern California, including those not within Los Angeles County (Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Sea World) are all planning on April 20 as the re-opening date.
An April 20 date gives the parks enough time to recall their employees, get the parks ready to open, and supplies delivered for food – but hearing directly from one park that food options are going to be (at least initially) very, very limited. Rides/attractions will need to be re-started and tested before park patrons can board.
The other thinking is that by April 20 – stimulus check should have arrived in peoples hands – and the parks want to capture some/all of that money as most by that date will have been cooped up for just over a month. The expectation is that the parks in general will be very busy – even though Easter/Passover is over – and most spring breaks would have been completed by the April 20 date. Many people will still be out of work – and the parks are betting people aren’t going to save their checks – they are going to go right out and cash those checks!
Could the planned re-opening date change if southern California sees a spike in cases/deaths – sure, if the governor and/or local county leaders continue any Stay/Safer-At-Home directives.
