REPORT: Delta Drastically Reducing Cabin Service

Delta Air Lines is reportedly cutting back on cabin service.

Big time.

FlyerTalk member A321neo has details from an apparent internal memo:

NO Alcohol or other beverage other than water are being catered onboard the aircraft for any cabin
First class:
0-999 miles: No pre-set water or PDB service
Bottle of water and snack in flight (no snack basket)
900+ miles: Bottle of water, snack, and non perishable Flight Fuel box (includes domestic Delta One)
**Note: Now based on mileage only, exception markets no longer apply
C+ and Main Cabin:
0-350 miles: No service
351+ miles: Bottle of water and a snack (no C+ snack basket)

So the first class and Comfort+ snack basket is done-zo.

It appears first class and domestic Delta One meals will consist of certain Flight Fuel offerings. (But I’m guessing my beloved fruit and cheese plate won’t be one of them.)

Outside of that, it seems like water, Biscoffs, almonds, and Cheez-Its for everyone — on certain flights. Delta previously didn’t offer C+ or Main Cabin service on flights of 250 miles or less. That’s now been upped to 350 miles.

Final Approach

The move follows similar changes made by other airlines such as Southwest and American. This obviously is to prevent passenger and flight crew physical contact, which only promotes the spread of viruses (like, you know, COVID-19). Like most negative changes put in place during the coronavirus COVID-19 era, it’s a sad — but necessary — trend.

I call BS. This is just a way to save some pennies. What is the point of flying first-class if you can’t get drunk? Or at least a stiff drink.

No, this is not necessary. None of this is necessary at all. For my part at least, I’ll be carrying on nips of bourbon, thank you very much.

Too bad they haven’t dropped their 1st Class Domestic fares to reflect this change. $1,200.00 ATL —> LAS….(3/26-3/29)

How is serving wine or a can of Coke any different than serving water? The FAA requires every airline to have water on all fights, regardless of length. Even on short flights with no service in economy on a CRJ-200 they have to give you water if you ask for it.
