If you are a Diamond 360 or a Delta Diamond Medallion for 2020 you can expect to see the 2020 Membership Kit with BragTags arriving in the mail this week. What is inside?
I can not speak for the Delta 360 mega spenders (my guess it theirs is a bit more impressive – they have been in the past), but for Diamonds, you get the above envelope.
Delta takes the time to use the mailing to include an advert for Delta Vacations. I have never used them as I like much more valuable cash back from portals like one of my favorites TopCashBack (Earn $10 for new users) or the sweet Rakuten – was Ebates (Earn $10 for new users) for my trips vs. SkyMiles bonus points that keep lowering in value year after year.
Then the tags themselves (plus a reminder that SkyMiles is runner up to the US NEWS real reward winner Alaska Airlines). They have, for two years in a row now, gone BACK to metal tags from the very cheap plastic ones they gave my wife the one year she earned Diamond status.
You get four of the JWD or Job Well Done coupons that Delta “mainline” folks can turn in for cash rewards.
Please notice the fine print. If you give these to Delta “looking” folks that is DGS or Delta Global Services people (think smaller airports) or Delta “looking” jet people (think all the Delta connection people) they can not use them. This is one of the reasons I make up my own reward cards and give them out all year when I fly.
Lastly, you get cheap rubber #BragTag straps that tend to break off. Below the shot above you see what was included in years past that was metal (#ProTip – you can order them cheap here on Amazon that will NOT break off). Just one more way Delta has for 2020 slightly cheapened the Diamond Medallion experience.
What else?
Again this year Delta has NOT included your million miler status on the tags. Last year I got the hideously ugly and cheap plastic million miler tags (scratched before use) and I have not used them nor have I got a new set this year. This is one of my biggest gripes about the changes to the tags over the years (well, other than the plastic year that is).
Also, you do NOT get a real SkyMiles membership card as in the past. Why does this matter? At some airports, they want to swipe the card to give you your free bag perk (yes, this has happened to me). Please remember sticking a #BragTag on your carry-on can help you now and then — so consider using these metal tags on your bag.
Lastly, your HOOU or “Have One On Us” drink coupons, as well as your new Delta Reserve card Guest Pass coupons (review up soon), are all now digital and you access them via the Fly Delta App.
Have you got your elite kit this year? Impressed? – René

Definitely not impressed. It makes no sense for them not to provide a physical DM membership card with the contact information for their DM line and the membership number. It is convenient to have in the wallete and to be able to show it as necessary. It can also help for showing at priority lines; sometimes customs/immigration lines internationally. And it would be so much more logical if they included something like membership number on the baggage tags, so that there would be a back up form of ID on them easily accessible in case of lost/misplaced baggage. The package and presentation makes little sense.
@Bernard – 100% agree on the physical DM card. IMO all elite levels should get one.
The last thing I want is another damn card. Glad to have it virtual.
As far as Bragtag straps, I thought I like the metal ones, but here is the issue I have found with them. No matter how tight you turn them, the will (after shockingly little time, like one or two trips) come apart due to rattling and they just unscrew, and then the tag falls off. )
I have caught it before hand a couple times, but also have lost at least 5 or more metal tags over the last several years. I guess the only way to ensure they stay is screw them on, then superglue the connector so it does not slowly disconnect itself
@riz – one drop crazy glue on twist and never coming off! 🙂
Bag tags are worthless without ID info embedded or printed. You’d think DL would us scannable or BT-tags for easy/cheaper tracking purposes.
René, when Delta stopped putting the Membership Number on the Bag tags and quit sending the Membership Card, the annual package became worthless. The only thing of value is the Job Well Done Awards.
I take them out and trash the rest.
@Sam – Have you checked tag prices on Ebay?
The kit you get is a waste. Means nothing really. 5th year diamond I just throw it in the can.
I wish the JWD certificates could also be used from the digital wallet!
René, : your comment on EBay prices for the baggage tags made me look–amazing! So do you think there is any need/point in replacing last year’s tags with the new ones? Does it make any conceivable difference? Try to sell older ones? The new ones?
Thank you!
i wrap some duck tape on the metal straps and that seems to keep them on! It would be great to have DM tags again as they want to see them when traveling to EU countries for boarding to make sure you are in the right line!!(even tho i have been in Biz class they still want to see them in some airports????
