An MGM Resorts data breach exposed private information of over 10.6 million former hotel guests.
“Last summer, we discovered unauthorized access to a cloud server that contained a limited amount of information for certain previous guests of MGM Resorts,” MGM told ZDNet. “We are confident that no financial, payment card or password data was involved in this matter.” MGM says it contacted affected guests last year.
So what data was leaked?
Catalin Cimpanu writes that full names, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and dates of birth were some of the personal details exposed in the breach.
Despite the incident occurring lin 2019, the information was posted to a hacking forum this week. Yipes!
Guests of all sorts were affected: average tourists, business travelers, DHS and TSA officials were just some of the folks whose details were exposed. Also, Justin Bieber and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey were among the higher-profile names included in the breach.
Some not terrible news? ZDNet says the breach “pales in comparison” to the infamous Marriott incident of 2017.
