In a fairly shocking move Wednesday night, the Department of Homeland Security announced that applications and renewals have been suspended for all New York residents.

According to WABC, “The DHS sent a letter to New York on Wednesday and the move is the Trump administration’s response to New York’s sanctuary law.

The recently enacted Green Light Law enables undocumented immigrants to get driver’s licenses and permits in New York.

Wolf said during his interview that New Yorkers can’t enroll or re-enroll in the Trusted Traveler programs because the DHS no longer has access to make sure they meet program requirements.”

No matter where one falls on the immigration issue, I don’t think group punishment is the answer.

    This isn’t group punishment

This is “if we can’t look up your criminal background, we can’t give you Global Entry”.

Shrug. If you refuse to share data with CBP, then people who need data going to CBP get screwed.

Don’t blame CBP, blame the people who refuse to share the data

Some things are more important than waiting a few extra minutes (even a few extra hours) in some airport line.

Protecting undocumented immigrants and giving them access to id is more important.

The solution is to get a democratic president next year so they can reverse this issue and allow global entry again for NY.

DHS no longer has access to make sure they meet program requirements.
    —-
New York state, give DHS access or it is your fault.

  4. Barry Graham says:

Greg and Derek got to say it before I did. “Wolf said during his interview that New Yorkers can’t enroll or re-enroll in the Trusted Traveler programs because the DHS no longer has access to make sure they meet program requirements.” This isn’t punishment. These are consequences of irresponsible behavior by New York politicians. Immigrants should go through the process properly, like I did. Brilliant move by the DHS. Thank you.

Not group punishment at all. This is awesome.

  6. john says:

Trump administration explanations have proven false time and time again. Their credibility is shredded. I need to see more. Maybe it is really true that the only way Homeland Security can get criminal records is through a state Department of Motor Vehicles. Or not.

Awesome! About time! Enough is enough

  8. Dave says:

Fantastic! Irresponsible actions SHOULD have consequences.

New York doesn’t matter for the upcoming election anyway. They are already fully factored out of the equation.

Please add California followed by every other Sanctuary state.,
CA, home of the motor voter registration.

I’ll bet these weren’t the type of comments you were expecting! Lol

@Joe: When I sat down to dinner tonight with my family, I had no idea I’d be writing this post or reading its comments.
